Re: it would be one interesting assembly line

Well for what it's worth, I googled and read and the fact that sticks out the most is that these were PETA employees. Not PETA supporters.

I know that is a weak position to take but I doubt one is required to believe in the PETA ethics to work there.

In any case, PETA should be held responsible for the actions of its employees and those actions were reprehensible.

Thanks for the info. It was certainly eye opening.

The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post “Thou Shalt Not Steal,” “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,” and “Thou Shall Not Lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment. -- George Carlin (I think)

Oh PETA, what will you think of next?  I personally don't like dairy products (except ice cream, who doesn't like it?), mostly because I'm lactose intolerant, but this is silly. The problem with the diary industry is the industry part.  You'll find much happier cows at your local family farms, and, like the commercial says, happy cows are tasty cows.

It's worse than that. Because of PETA's high profile they get donations from people who want to help animals so those donations are not given to outfits that actually help animals. The people who run small, no kill shelters are a diverse bunch but one thing they all have in common is they HATE PETA.
PETA siphons off desperately needed funds and spend the money on celebrity galas, lavish headquarters and high profile but utterly pointless performance art style protests.
PETA is a cancer in the animal welfare world.

I'm pretty sure the letter was meant as satire, and this in fact was their point.

In any case, I remember reading an article a while back that speculated based on un-reproduced meta-study that animal milk proteins have a detrimental effect on the human immune system, and that we really do consume too much cow milk.

We're not talking about cows as burgers here, we're talking about cows as cheese makers.  Treat the cow better, like the family farmers do, and everyone's happy.  Tastier product, happier cows, happier farmers, and happier PETA idiots.

Uh, no. PETA (or at least some of its membership) takes the view that domestication is exploitation, so no human consumption of milk and eggs, and no pets (that's "slavery").

(And hint: my previous post wasn't entirely serious).
