Is there nothing in development?
I know apple keeps their projects more secret than can be, but it's been so long. Is there nothing in the works? No new hardware that is Mac related?
What about new towers, laptops (pro or otherwise). What about revising the mini?
I'm starved for new Apple COMPUTER based news/rumors. Why is it taking so long to update models?
Secondary Topic:
Do you think Apple would ever consider using the Intel Skull-Trail motherboard in their pro-tower line? It's a Dual Xeon Capable MOBO with quad SLI or Crossfire capabilities. Bascially it brings all the qualities of their pro line with more GPU capabilities. I think this would be a cool system.
Anyway, carry on. I'm just bored and wanting to have more Apple smurf come out.

Quad SLI ??
Smurf - even standard dual SLI is only needed for gaming, and typically results is systems that either need extensive water cooling or so many fans you can hear them a block away.
I don't think there is the gaming demand yet on Apple for quad SLI.
The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post “Thou Shalt Not Steal,” “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,” and “Thou Shall Not Lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment. -- George Carlin (I think)

The only place would be for hardcore 3D cg, domain where most of the software is on PC anyway..
Would love some new hardware though. We'll see if we get some fancy new manufacturing process.
And the mini.. is a real pitty. I would have bought one this summer if they weren't so.. dated.. Instead I got a nice Hackintosh for the same price.

Jobs doesn't play video games, so no, they won't.

I foresee the triumphant return of the pippin -- which btw, looks a bit like the original XBOX, if only vaguely.

SLI isnt really necessary when cards like the GTX 280 are out. Just my opinion.
SlackWare Linux.
Because it just works.

Re: Is there nothing in development?
it isn't so much the sli aspect as it is the 4 x16 pci-e slots. Imagine having a dedicated Graphics Processing Station such as Nvidia's Tesla GPU. That thing is dedicated for rendering nothing more (there is no monitor output). Combine that with a workstation class gpu or even a standard one and you have a rendering powerhouse.
There is still plenty of cg software that is available for the mac.

It's still useful. A pair of 8800GTs is faster (in most tests) than the 280, and costs half the price. Moreover, if you already have one 8800GT, adding a second would cost one quarter the price of the 280.

The ATI HD4870x2 is the current king of the hill, but at 650$, it has probably less bang for the bucks than a 8800GT or a HD4850..

Actually, the next pro box will have wings.

I didn't think you were such an authority on gaming PCs, res.
But no, I wouldn't even look in Skulltrail's direction. It was more a tech demo than a viable product.

More like $550, but integrating two chips on one card, it only needs one slot. Crossfire & SLI need OS support tho, too... still, NV has a CUDA dev kit for OSX. Not sure about ATi and Brook+. Don't really expect much GP-GPU action 'til OpenCL.

Yes and no, It uses one slot and depending on the configuration of the motherboard, case, and the other cards covers another.

Electrically it only needs one. It occupies at least two slots volume-wise, but we're talking MP here.

True, a Mac Pro can only physically fit 2 of them a and a single slot card.
