I'm not looking to punish independent agents. It solves nothing as the bank stink from the head down not the feet up. If anyone needs to be punished it's the executives who insist on crap like junkets, golden parachutes, or waste money on bribes when the companies going belly up. I and most people including those democrats you are lambasting just feel they have to be held to certain rules before they get a dime of bailout money cause if they don't the wage slaves working under them are gonna suffer anyway it goes down.

It's not about punishing people. It's about cost-effective use of your money when you are bankrupt. Yes you reward for superior performance, but you don't do that when you don't have the money. AIG doesn't.

If you didn't store them there it wouldn't ache. Post 102 explains why your faulty logic in the post but since I know that you know I was never talking about punishing the independent agents then it obvious to you, me, and every one reading this that it was indeed a strawman.

Post 102 had nothing to do with this 440,000 since top level AIG execs weren't there, in fact only 10 company people were there from that division. I suppose they could have got by with 1 to run the meeting so perhaps you just want to raise hell about the other 9.

Well those 10 should've been fired for wasting money on a junket instead of conducting business in house and forfeited any severance packages in the process no matter how high or low an exec they were.

Nitpicking detalis. Who cares.
My point is to draw a line in the sand that says "NO MORE" of this in your face 'let them eat cake' attitude about the whole compensation issue. Golden parachutes etc.
It is not OK anymore. Not in these times.
Details be damned. NO MORE laissez faire rationalizations for why it is GOOD. It is not good. Not today anyway.

On whether AIG is still using lobbyists [now that we have 80% investment/ownership]
Can you believe it? The government is paying lobbyists to lobby itself.
We shouldn't be surprised. They treated themselves to spa treatments on the government dime after the bailout, so they haven't exactly reconciled themselves to their new reality. They think they are still a high flying insurance company making huge bucks for the Big Money Boyz. They haven't reckoned with the fact that they are now civil servants.
I know there is a certain sense of surreality about all this and that people haven't really had a chance to catch their breaths and all. But the financial sector had better get a grip right now and recognize that the country has almost no patience with them at the moment and they will be rolling out the metaphorical guillotine if they don't get some humility right now. I know it's hard for former masters of the universe to accept that they have lost their magical powers, but well... they have.
Just so.

This is the poster company for clueless and greedy execs and boards of directors. I seem to remember that employees below this level don't get bonuses when departing under a cloud.
