I just love my pets

This last week or so has been particularly stressful for me. Some family bullsmurf and overtime at work. Ya know, the usual grown up crap.
I have noticed that both my dog and cat have been increasingly attentive as my stress level was rising and this morning, after a grateful sleep entering the weekend, I awoke to both of them bracketing me in bed.
Sadie, my 75lbs Pitbull on one side and Maggie, my silly fat cat on the other. and they were both just pressed as hard as the could against me.
God bless those two. I awoke and just laid there feeling the love almost palpably flowing out of them. It felt warm and safe.
I felt blessed. Very few people are lucky enough to wake up with the love, comfort and protective feeling having both a big old Pit Bull and a fat, fluffy cat snuggling them.
A lucky man I am to have such wonderful and thoughtful companions.

I’m not ready to make nice-I’m not ready to back down-I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round-It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could-‘Cause I’m mad as hell-Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

My dog Bert is always inviting me to go chase chipmunks and rabbits.

Re: I just love my pets

Our dog, Sophie, always makes my day be running to the door to meet me. Her tail wags so hard it makes her backside sway! Although my wife isn't too keen on it, I'll scoop her up in my arms, and she will lick and paw my face for about 10 minutes. I'm told that she starts looking for me to come home about an hour or so before I generally arrive.

She is very 'pack oriented', and is not happy unless my wife and I are on the couch together. If I try to go in another room, she will 'round me up'. She can be surprisingly persistent, and will try to open doors to get to us. Most interestingly, though; is that she will guard my wife. I tend to stay up a bit later, but Sophie's bedtime is pretty solid - 10:30 or she gets cranky. Nevertheless, if I'm not in the room, she will lay with her head towards the door in a light sleep, barking at any noise she hears. As soon as I come to bed, she's out like a light.

She also refused to sleep anywhere but between our pillows at night. We tried to crate train her at night, but she would tune up every time we turned the lights out. So, after a few nights of that, we just gave in and put her on the bed. She walked right over to the pillows, laid down, and went right to sleep. She sleeps very soundly once we are both in bed, and hasn't cause a bit of trouble in two years.

Just having her around brightens my mood considerably, as she never seems to be down. I'm not really a morning person, but Sophie always wakes up happy and ready to play, and won't let me sleep in. I've not had any trouble being late for work since got her. Like her bedtime, her waking time is pretty solid. (Generally 6:15 to 6:30). If I fail to wake up when she does, she will try to lick one of us until we wake up to take her out. Even when she's sick, she is still a happy dog. We didn't know she was sick until she started having accidents - at which point the vet told us she had a UTI. She was playing right up to the moment we put her in the car!

Like Pariah's dog, Sophie is very aware of whether we are happy or sad. If one of us is upset, she will come over and sit by us. I've seen her jump up on my wife when she's been upset, to try and get her to pick her up - which seems to make them both feel better.

When she is upset, such as when we take her to the vet, she wants us to pick her up and hold her. To say that I've fallen for this little furball is an understatement. I can't imagine how we got on before we got her.

Re: I just love my pets

Back when I had horrible insomnia (72 Hours of non sleep) my sister would visit and bring her dog over, and he would sit at my feet and give me such a worried look, I always thought that was so sweet. Pets really can sense when you are out of sorts, it's kinda interesting how responsive they can be nod

Frank loves me and follows me around.  If I touch him he is an instant purr machine.  I'm out of town right now or I'd go give him a good squeeze.

I recently inherited a mature Basenji. A breed practically incapable of obedience, but supremely well behaved. Basically, a dog that behaves like a cat.

Re: I just love my pets

My cat is very jealous of me.  When one of the other cats comes upstairs, she will try to chase them away.  Our blind cat came up on the bed the other night and curled under the covers by me.  My cat was pissed, and wouldn't let me pet her for two days.  When I have headaches, she will curl up by my head and put her paw on my forehead.  She purrs in my ear until I fall asleep.  asleep

Pets are awesome!  up
