Son of a Witch
I never give my cell phone number to anybody. Very few people have it.
I never put it in any web forms.
Suddenly today I started getting a bunch of text message spam asking me to text some code to some number.
My phone is prepaid - those code crap don't even work, and I pay for 0.3 units every time I read a message.
Isn't spamming cell phones illegal?
I've gotten at least a dozen of them in the last hour.
I'm guessing some idiot entered my number as a typo somewhere. I've been ignoring them since the first two (so I don't have to pay to read them).
Anyone know how the smurf to get it to stop? The second one came from a different number than the first, so blocking the number isn't likely to work. Is there a "no text message spam" registry somewhere?
It's annoying as hell.
The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post “Thou Shalt Not Steal,” “Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,” and “Thou Shall Not Lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment. -- George Carlin (I think)

Re: Son of a Witch
Unfortunately my cell phone doesn't have an "accept text only from address book" option.

Re: Son of a Witch
They seem to have stopped - at least for the night.
I'm guessing some fool entered some drawing online and entered my phone number.
If it starts up again tomorrow, I'll google the phone numbers and start making some nasty phone calls.

While I didn't enjoy it as much as the original book, I thought that it was still a clever play on the original Oz stories. I'm looking forward to the third book, which is supposed to be the story of the Cowardly Lion.

No messages today. Hopefully that's the end of it.

I didn't know that there was a series still in writing.
The problem I have with discussing freedom is that people have been conditioned to expect "of me to tell you what to do" to follow it... inevitably they notice I don't ever get to that part, and they feel like I am trying to trick them.
Sometimes before replying to a topic, I think to myself: I am just so original!

I thought this was going to be about Sarah Palin's preacher.

Is he the son of a witch?
I hadn't heard that one yet.

No, but he led a witch hunt in a Kenyan town.

Try texting "STOP" to the number they're coming from. Barring that, text "HELP". If it's an automated service it will probably help you with commands you can use.

On the night you left I came over And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders
Our brand new coats so flushed and pink And I knew your heart I couldn't win
Cause the seasons change was a conduit And we left our love in our summer skin

I remember that.
I have to be honest, even though I believe in supernatural nonsense, I did find that a bit disturbing.

It has stopped - so I'm guessing either they did it to a bunch of people and got shut down, or there was a computer glitch resulting in calls to numbers they didn't mean to, or something.
