Hold onto your hats, I'm gonna say the "A" word!

And that word is: ACCOUNTABILITY

In all the talk of what's to be done about the present situation, there seems to be zero concept that at least part of the problem might have been incompetence and/or failed leadership. And I'm being kind here, some might say there was a fair amount of Randian self-interest bordering on the sociopathic.

The point is, I haven't heard anyone say, "hmm, the decision-makers who caused this disaster, whether in government or business, are still there, still making decisions about what happens next ... I wonder if that's a good idea?"

How can "they're too big to fail" be the one catch-all reason for not demanding a change in leadership? It's like a guy getting drunk then getting into a horrible car crash being handed the set of keys to another car, without even being told where to drive, or how -- just get out there and drive.

I mean look at GM. They're demanding tens of billions of dollars to help them merge with Chrysler, but why should that merger be of any benefit to anyone, when the same idiots who stuck with SUVs until just a few months ago are steering the ship?

But it's like Iraq, isn't it? No one ever has been, or ever will be held to account for that fiasco. smurf, lots of 'em are getting medals.

It's insane. A stupidocracy.

A Primer
Once upon a time there was Nixon the Crook and Ford the Pardoner.
They planted Bush the Spymaster.
As Haldeman and Ehrlichman left Cheney and Rumsfeld arrived.
With guest appearance by Haig the Handler.

Later, after Carter the Chump got taken by an Iatolyah in Iran and Gates and Casey and Cap and Ollie needed some sand for the Sandanistas the McFarlane was afforded plausible deniability by piper Poindexter.
--------
At this point, insert in your imagination the Little Green Alien in Bugs Bunny:

"You're making me angry...!"

Accountability? Why not?

The better words for the last year and a half woud be "Hearings" and "Impeachment". But that was too extreme and shrill.

Brigid O'Shaughnessy: I haven't lived a good life. I've been bad, worse than you could know.
Sam Spade: You know, that's good, because if you actually were as innocent as you pretend to be, we'd never get anywhere.

Youre talking about a democracy, right? We live in a republic though, so, people lend their power to others by electing them, and are educated and socialized to believe that the system works out for the benefit of the common man as if it really were a full fledged democracy, no effort needed, no worries, just trust in the system. If the system doesnt hold them accountable, well, they must not have been all that bad after all, right? CNN says not to worry.
