Missing Digital Issue
Is anyone else having problems getting their digital issues of MacLife?
It has happened to me three times in the last six or so months. Most recently on Nov. 7 I noticed the December issue in my local bookstore, yet I hadn't received my digital copy, which usually precedes the store copy by a week or so.
I sent off an email and got the response to wait until Nov. 11 and that if I didn't get it by that date, then I could get my subscription extended or another copy.
Well the deadline came and went and I sent another email out, but so far, as of late night Nov. 12 I haven't heard a word back.
Once this summer and again earlier this fall, I had to email to get my digital copy of the magazine.
I have had no problems getting my digital copy of Macworld and I am getting the MacLife newsletter so there don't seem to be problems on my end.

Do they get emailed to you, or what? (I don't work for the magazine and I've never digitaled.)

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Digital magazines are available online, for download to a computer or both.
For MacLife I sometimes get an email with a link saying that the issue is ready. MacLife uses Texterity, which provides the issues online.
Macworld uses Zinio, which sends me an email when an issue is available. One of the differences between the two is that Zinio installs a program on your hard drive that allows you to read offline (you can read online as well). Zinio has a download manager where you can check to see if you have any issues available to download, without having to check emails. Also Zinio's website keeps track of my issues in my "library" and allows me to re-download my back issues if I need to do that.
One thing that I do like about Texterity is that you can see all the issue's pages spread out in a larger-than-thumbnail form, making finding an article or ad easy.
I am not trying to say one is better than the other, just that I am trying to figure out what is holding up my digital issue and whether anyone else is having a similar problem.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Well, I've gotten a partial solution to the problem but not exactly what I was looking for. I did get a hard copy of the issue in the mail, along with an early request for renewal. (I think my subscription ends in May 2009)
But I still like the idea of digital magazines and I hope I can get this copy digitally.

Progress is being made. They did email me back that they are looking into it.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Got the issue late afternoon. they are still not sure what happened, hopefully it will be worked out.
I like the idea of digital magazines and think that the demand for them will grow. I think it's like buying organic food, it's a good idea, but there are some adjustments that have to be made.
Thanks Texterity, MacLife and the publication gods and goddesses.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Dusty, we are leading parallel lives. I had my first problems with the digital subscription last June. I did not get the regular email saying that the June edition was available for download, so I had to email customer service for them to get it fixed. All was relatively smooth until the November edition, when I again did not get notice of the availability of the download (although for some inexplicable reason I did receive a hard copy of the magazine, which I had not ordered and had never requested) and contacted customer service. I was told that the email was not late until Oct. 14, which would have been a couple weeks after the normal cadence, but I waited nonetheless. After the 14th came and went, I contact them again and they finally sent me the link.
Well, December also came and went with similar results. I got the hard copy of the magazine but no digital version. I have sent several emails since then asking for the download and have gotten sporadic responses saying, essentially, we are looking into your concerns but no indication that the problem is solved or that I am even getting the December edition. And today I received the hard copy of January 09 MacLife.
I have no idea what they are doing, and unfortunately I have the feeling that neither do they.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Kadahlen,
Sorry to hear that you are in a similar predicament. I was kind of thinking it was an isolated problem, such as they messed up my subscription information. Unfortunately, it may be bigger, it sounds.
I like the idea of digital publications and would like to continue to receive it digitally.
I am waiting to see what the next few weeks brings. I have already received the January MacLife issue in the mail with a renewal request, although I am not a snail mail customer.
I have also already received my Macworld for January.
So here's hoping that what we are experiencing is a small glitch and not part of a larger issue.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Dusty, things have not improved for me either. I keep writing to customer service for them to resolve this issue (like you, I did not order the hard copy but I am now getting it for some inexplicable reason, but they can't seem to get me my digital version). As of now, I am waiting for January 09, which I received in the mail 3 weeks ago. When I contact them, they treat me like a bothersome child and ask me to wait a little longer for a digital copy that never comes until I again contact them asking where it is. They are fast converting me into a MacWorld-only reader.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Hmmm,
I did get my January digital issue on Dec. 11. Keep plugging at it is probably the best advice I can give you. I still don't know the cause of the problem, but it sounds like it is being addressed.
good luck

Re: Missing Digital Issue
After begging some more, I finally got the digital copy today. I fear this is going to be a monthly occurrence.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Misery loves company. I subscribed to ML in Nov, 08. I received my Dec 08 digital copy with my print edition but not with my Jan 09 edition. I just searched my e-mail after receiving my Feb 09 print edition and did not find any more e-mail with links to the Jan or Feb 09 digital edition. I have e-mailed customer service and am awaiting an answer.
Are we supposed to receive an e-mail or is there a link to download it if we login?

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Sorry for the extreme late response.
Hopefully you have gotten an email response. If not try again. I have been getting my issues on time so far, so maybe whatever snafu they had in general or with my account has been addressed.
Good luck

Re: Missing Digital Issue
Hello Everyone,
I am a new subscriber in December 2008, I received my December 2008 digital issue by email. I asked them for the November 2008 digital issue and they sent it to me promptly. Then for January and February 2009, nothing, no email. I then received my March 2009 digital issue and then the print issue in the mail.
I have tried emailing MacLife and Texterity about the missing issues and I keep getting the same story, we are looking into this,.... we show that your first issue should be March 2009..... after about 3 weeks of asking for the digital issues... I know that their communication and customer service skills really needs improvement. I am just wasting my valuable time by asking for the missing January and February 2009 digital issues. I will definitely think twice about renewing my MacLife subscription when it is up.
It would be so simple to just send the missing digital issues to the subscribers.

Re: Missing Digital Issue
The last couple of months I've gotten my digital copy no problem, each time with an email with the link to the magazine.
So I am hoping your issues will arrive as well. Not sure where the hang up would be, maybe a communication gap between Texterity and MacLife.
Good luck to you.

Well, you should definitely contact customer service if you haven't already. They don't read the forum, for the most part (some of the magazine staff occasionally read through, but they're not the customer service and billing department either, so it's better/faster if you contact the responsible parties directly.)

I have, 4 times now, and their response was...
"We have corrected your subscription to reflect your request(?) lol
Service will begin in MAY"
Uhhh, my subscription started in Nov of 08....
Time to let the rest of the planet know that this periodical does not have the resources to handle business.
Good luck everyone, im sure i can find it on the net somewhere for free anyway
Just thought id do something right for once and i get screwed..
