Lich King Midnight Madness

Wrath of the Lich King Midnight Madness [November 12, 2008, 8:16 pm ET] - Share

Here's a reminder that the World of Warcraft Community Website outlines locations holding midnight madness events for the Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft, which will become available as of the stroke of midnight tonight/tomorrow morning.

No thoughts on LK, or are all the WoWers busy with it 24/7 since release?

Re: Lich King Midnight Madness

Preordered at a best buy that wasn't open at midnight.  Picked it up at around noon today, have played about 2 hours so far.  The beginning areas are a bit crowded on my realm (Stormrage), which makes some of the quests difficult.  It could be a lot worse, blizzard learned from their mistakes after TBC & made 2 starting areas.  Siege tanks are fun.

Another difference from TBC - from what my guildies are telling me you won't be replacing your gear as quickly as you did in TBC.  Most of my gear is kara drops & a few badge pieces, and the only quest item i've taken so far is a trinket.  Toons in gear drops from the first few raids should be ok till level 75, and i've read that most sunwell gear won't be replaced from quest/dungeon drops until as late as 77.  When TBC came out all MC gear was more or less swapped out after the first few quests in outland.

WoW, Level 80! [November 14, 2008, 10:35 am ET] - Share

Nymh of EU Drek'thar first to level 80 on WoW Insider has a bit on someone who managed to hit the level cap in the new World of Warcraft expansion while most players were still getting the shrink-wrap off their copies. There's no word on whether Blizzard has dispatched a party of youngsters armed with the Sword of a Thousand Truths to take her down. Thanks nin. On a semi-related note, there's a Video interview with Mike Morhaime on Ten Ton Hammer talking with the Blizzard CEO during the Wrath of the Lich King launch event in Manhattan, discussing the growth of their MMORPG and the state of the games industry.

Re: Lich King Midnight Madness

I picked up a commemorative Lich King edition at Fry's about 20 hours after the launch time--it was one of eight copies left on the display. Another advantage I got was that while I continued the Burning Crusade quests people were complaining of 30-45 minutes wait times to log in (my realm--East Isles?--is one of the heavy use realms). By the time I had Lich King installed yesterday evening I was able to log in with no delay.

I spent a couple of hours late last night in Northrend in the part (Warsong Outpost?) you get to on the zeppelin from Orgrimar. Being a leatherworker I was confused by how there is no "recipe" to put together leather scraps into usable leather as has been the case with other types of leather--instead you can right-click a stack of scraps and 5 of them become 1 piece of leather. I learned this only after gathering some 140 pieces of scrap and mailing most of that to my storage mule.

The Warsong Outpost itself is rather confusing because it is a stacked structure with 5 or 6 levels overlaying each other at some points. While I have a sense of its structure now, it was difficult to figure out where some of the questgivers were.

My sole 70 is a Tauren hunter who got to that level only 3 weeks ago so he has only a couple of epic pieces on him.

Well, I'm VERY disappointed! Took her some 34 hours to get there--what a slacker.

EDIT: I've found out that the actual time was about 27 hours from that player's local release time, so apparently he was located somewhere in the Greenwich time zone. A fellow player speculated that the first 80th level would get there within 24 hours.
