iTunes Sharing - Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream
this problem has just recently started - iTunes used to share / stream smoothly consistantly. But now:
When sharing my iTunes library, located in my office on a G5 1.8, to my G4 1.5 Powerbook, the music consistanly stops and I get "Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream" messages.
I am using an Airport Express as a base station, all soft/firmware is up to date.
Also noting that my Airport signal is usually at 3 bars, where it used to be at 4 bars all the time.
I have restarted the AExpress, set it to 802.11g only, tried different multicast rates, turned interference robustness on and off, and still no steady streaming.
The only temporary fix is when I shut off security entirely - that seemed to help. But I don't want to leave security off.
iTunes version is 5.0.1
OS 10.4.2
What am I missing here?

It'd be more helpful if you explained this more;
Please define exactly what you toggle to make things work again.
They say that the most secure computer is the one not connected to the internet.
That's why security experts recommend Telstra BigPond.

He/she turned off either WEP or WPA. In other words, it's an open network.

I've had the same issue, and using only WEP instead of WPA seemed to fix it for me.

Re: iTunes Sharing - Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream
Hi I've been getting the same message recently (Network Stalled - Rebuffering Stream) but in a different context. Every time i try to listen to the short sample of a tune in the iTunes store it plays about 1 second and then keeps having to rebuffer. It makes it virtually impossible to listen to samples of tunes as they constantly stop and re-start. The first time it happend I thought it was just due to a busy night at the iTunes store but it's now happening all the time!! Are others experiencing this?
I don't know if it's relevant but I updated recently to iTunes 7.0.1 (7) and I'm running OS X 10.3.9.

Re: iTunes Sharing - Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream
Hi, Recently updated to the new version of itunes and now have the same problem...it takes forever to access the store and then when I try to listen to a song preview it plays about a second then gives a message that it's re buffering stream...VERY annoying...
Does anyone know if there are configuration settings with the new itunes that might fix this?

Re: iTunes Sharing - Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream
I'm having the same problem with radio streams: the NPR stations I normally listen to have been problem-free streams for years, and for the past week I'm getting the "rebuffering stream" message as well.
I'm on the same cable modem I've been on, and am having no problems watching olympics video feeds: it's not a network/bandwidth problem.
The problem began on an older version of itunes which had been working consistently; it continues on 7.7.1 which I've just installed. It's not a version problem.
ClamXav isn't finding any viruses on my machine, but if my hardware is unchanged and my network is working and it's not an itunes versioning problem... what else is left? Anyone have any ideas?

Re: iTunes Sharing - Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream
Ha! I've finally found the solution to the itunes "rebuffering stream" and itunes store access problem, at least in my own instance.
While normally I use Netscape, during the olympics I'd configured my secondary browser, Safari, to use an open Canadian server as a proxy in order to watch non-NBC olympics coverage. (The server was verrry slow and so not terribly effective, and so I'd sort of just shrugged and continued to watch the NBC stuff through my primary browser.)
itunes, being an apple product, apparently uses those safari preferences. I've removed the safari proxy server, and *poof*, itunes radio streams and the itunes store function properly again.
So I'd suggest that when troubleshooting this problem don't just verify that your network is working properly in general, but also verify that your Safari browser is working properly, even if it's not your usual browser. Itunes seems to share certain preferences with Safari.

Re: iTunes Sharing - Network Stalled / Rebuffering Stream
I read someones suggestion that has improved my music listening pleasure to itunes music streams. Here's what he said:
Try all the options on the itunes buffer setting. Also, check your QuickTime preferences and make sure the bandwidth setting is the same or LOWER than your actual connection speed to the Internet. If you want to test your internet connection speed you can go to:
http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp
Ex: my internet speed on mcafee speedometer read 136 kbps, so under my MAC settings, I pulled up QuickTime's preferences and chose a streaming speed as close to 136 as I could without going over.
RESULTS: improved,
