For all you Wii wagglers...

How many of you use rechargeable batteries vs battery packs? I bought a no-name set of packs and a charger, but I've found that they don't give me any more playtime than a set of disposable batteries (3-4 hours continuous). How long do you get from a typical charge from either?

Re: For all you Wii wagglers...

You can get an idea on how long they'll last based on the listed capacity (mAH).

The pro of using rechargeable is the money saved over time by not needing to replace the batteries when they loose charge.

I get much much longer play time then that on my rechargeable batteries.

I'm not sure I understand.  I think you mean:

- Rechargable Batteries don't hold a charge for very long, but you can use them over and over again so you save money despite having to change the depleted battries more often.

- Standard batteries last longer, but when they're done, they're done, so you have to spend money on new ones.  Over time you spend more, but have more hours playing in a row.

Is that what you mean?  If I understand you correctly, that exactly matches my experience... but you've left out the answer for what the original poster is asking.

I think the original poster is looking for comparison between the batteries you've compared and packs like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Battery-Kit-C … 000R9A9JG/

I don't have any experience with them either, but wouldn't mind hearing about how they hold up in comparison.  That second one in particular claims a great play-to-recharge time:

NYKO 87017 NINTENDO WII BATTERY KIT FOR CHARGE STATION WORKS WITH THE NINTENDO WII CHARGE STATION (NYK87000); PROVIDES UP TO 25 HOURS OF PLAYTIME ON 2-HOUR CHARGE; RUBBERIZED BATTERY COVER IN 5 CUSTOM COLORS PROVIDES SUPERIOR GRIP ; INCLUDES NIMH RECHARGEABLE BATTERY PACK and CUSTOM BATTERY COVER WITH CONTACT PASS-THROUGH POINTS TO CHARGE BATTERIES WHILE IN REMOTE

Doesn't say what the battery pack's expected lifespan is, though.

So do I.  I get even longer on disposables.

Rechargable AA's can be used in anything as opposed to a charge pack for a controller, so I'd go with those.

The really cheap no-name batteries usually lie about their listed capacities, though. Even so, you should easily get more than 3-4 hours. Not sure what it could be.

In my experience, rechargeable AAs don't work very well in the Wii controllers. A fully charged pair reports as 1 bar out of 4 and lasts less than an hour. The same batteries work fine in other devices. I haven't tried the Wii-specific battery packs.

Not all rechargeable batteries are created equal.

The ones I tried were all NiMH with ratings between 1800 and 2300 mAh from Duracell, Energizer, and two off-brands.

Re: For all you Wii wagglers...

I have 4 pairs of the rechargeable, Rayovac 2100 mAh AA Hybrids.  I also have the Rayovac Universal slow charger (model # PS3).  I always heard that you should use a slow/trickle charger.

I haven't documented anything to compare to when i used to use disposables....but I don't feel like I am running out of juice any faster or slower than what I was used to.

I can leave them in the second controller which may not get used for 2-3 weeks and it will still have around the same charge as I left it.  I haven't experienced a full charge only getting me 1 bar out of 4. In fact, this past weekend I used my 2nd controller to play GH with family for about 2 hours on Sat and 2 hours on Sunday with MKart. It had 3 bars when we started and 2 bars when I shut it off.

Like Booksley said, I like being able to use them in other things as well.

Re: For all you Wii wagglers...

Rechargeable batteries annoy me (though I keep using them).  I don't have time to play games often, so they'll usually sit there and seem to drain quickly without use.  But, you can't keep them charging until you're ready to use them, either.
