Re: Will Apple EVER have a Blu-ray Mac?

I don't even care if they don't put a drive in the machines yet. I just want the software to play them and support them.

A reasonable request IMO

Re: Will Apple EVER have a Blu-ray Mac?

I would have thought the VLC team would have had support by now. Is there like some license that keeps them from making a decoder for BDR? Didn't DVD have one, so how could they playback DVD's and keep the app free? Sorry, but I don't know everything about how this works. So I'm sure there's a reason for the delay. Since Apple's on the Blu-Ray board you'd think the player would at least have the option. Maybe Snow Leopard? If not 10.7. (God, too far off!)

VLC works because the copy protection scheme on DVDs was cracked to produce libdvdcss. Until something similar has been produced for bluray, it will be doubtful that VLC will be able to decode bluray.
