YUI or other AJAX frameworks?
Has anyone here used the Yahoo User Interface Library? I've never used an AJAX framework, and it looks pretty cool. Just wondering what anyone's thoughts are on it, or other AJAX frameworks.

I haven't used their AJAX framework, but their CSS is pretty fantastic. Makes my life a helluva lot easier.

Yeah, JQuery is really sweet too. Even Micosoft and Nokia think so.

Re: YUI or other AJAX frameworks?
Basseq, do you know of a jQuery script that imitates the draggable boxes like on the BBC website?

Don't depend upon that stuff.
People like me surf with extensions like NoScript - and I ain't going to whitelist your sites just because it is broken. I generally go somewhere else, and only whitelist a site when it really is of interest to me (but I remove sites the very first time they abuse my trust and do something naughty).
So make sure things work w/o it.

W2ttsy: Check out JQuery UI, specifically the draggable/droppable functionality/
Resedit: You're right about making JavaScript degrade gracefully, but man are you paranoid. It's kind of like saying "Yeah, I drive my Ferarri, too, but only on dirt roads going 5mph."

dont worry Res, this is for a web application as unobtrusive extra functionality. My intended users will have fairly average systems, so no js or css will be part of the requirements.
Basseq is there a collision detector available in jQuery? Essentially my app will have templates in the CMS system that users can modify. They will be able to move around text blocks and pictures to give their page a unique look and feel. Obviously i dont want to have them putting an image over text or similar.

Mmm, I have no idea. Some extension has probably been written, but I don't think there's anything in the base library for it. Not that it would be hard to write a quick-and-dirty collision detector for squares.

Re: YUI or other AJAX frameworks?
not really related, but not thread worthy either.
does anyone know how the google charts API is being implemented on campaign monitors site?
http://www.campaignmonitor.com/features … analytics/
im thinking its either flash or very tricky JS. thoughts? although im not sure how they would be doing flash integration as the API doesnt support that.
