This doesn't necessarily affect Burris, since he was appointed prior to the impeachment. It would be up to the state to certify him, which is still pending.

During the House's 90-minute debate on impeachment, no one spoke up to defend the governor. But Rep. Milton Patterson, a Chicago Democrat, made the sole vote against impeaching Blagojevich.
Patterson said he read the impeachment committee's report and wasn't comfortable voting against the governor. "I have no firsthand knowledge of any of the evidence," he said.
"I went by my own gut feeling, it's as simple as that," he said. "I read the report. If the government is going to indict him, let them go ahead and do that. That's their job and I'm doing my job."
Rep. Elga Jefferies, another Chicago Democrat, voted "present."
113 yay, 1 nay, 1 present.
Rib should be [dis]pleased- first he quotes Kipling, then..
Blagojevich was out jogging in his Chicago neighborhood when the vote came down. When he returned to his home, he compared his situation to a short story about a petty criminal called "The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner."

I expect Burris will be seated. The objections aren't to him, just the appointment process.

Re: Farmerkev can sure pick a governor!
The farce reaches new, albeit modern levels. RB is boycotting his own impeachment and going on TV instead.
(One local radio station has reportedly offered him his own talk show).
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - If there's such a thing as a "normal" impeachment trial, the one that starts Monday in Illinois doesn't qualify.
The defendant, Gov. Rod Blagojevich, won't participate. He'll be talking to Whoopi Goldberg and Larry King instead of facing the state Senate. And while the Democrat acknowledges his conviction is certain, he refuses to resign.
Blagojevich (pronounced blah-GOY'-uh-vich) complains that the trial rules are unfair, but he and his lawyers didn't try to influence the rules as they were written or afterward.
After weeks of near-silence, Blagojevich has begun an energetic public relations campaign, comparing himself to the hero of a Frank Capra movie and a cowboy being lynched for a crime he didn't commit. He said that when he was arrested on federal corruption charges, he took solace from other leaders who have been jailed.
"I thought about Mandela, Dr. King, Gandhi" and that helped him gain perspective, he said in an interview that aired Sunday on "Today."
..
"This man mystifies me," said Ann Lousin, a professor at Chicago's John Marshall Law School.

No one will buy his book if no one knows who he is.
Since his political career is over, he needs exposure so he can write a book people will buy.

I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

I must say - it is odd that many of the charges were from his first term, known in his first term, yet the people re-elected him.

wiki:
Illinois Republican Party
The year 2002 proved to be one of the most damaging years for the Illinois Republican Party. It suffered immense losses statewide as allegations of corruption emanating from the office of Governor George H. Ryan culminated in federal criminal indictments. The party lost its stronghold over its historical base, the Chicago suburbs. The party lost the governorship to the Democratic Party of Illinois, under Governor Rod Blagojevich, a former member of Congress, from Chicago. To make matters worse, donors withheld funds from the Republican organization and the party was driven into near bankruptcy.
In order to save the state party, Topinka, the only statewide Republican officeholder, was appointed chair that year. Upon assuming the role, Topinka quickly drafted a reorganization plan hoping to fill Republican coffers once again as well as rebuild the party's public image. Topinka's tenure as the head of the Illinois GOP expired in January 2005; her replacement was Andrew McKenna.
[edit]Illinois gubernatorial campaign
On November 7, 2005, Topinka announced that she would not seek re-election as state treasurer — instead, she entered the gubernatorial primary, hoping to challenge Democratic Governor Rod Blagojevich. The Republican primary was deeply divisive; her tenure as Party Chairman destroyed her support from the conservative wing of her party, and it was feared that her pro-choice and positive gay rights positions would be detrimental to her standing with the same conservatives. In December she announced that she would join forces with DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois.
In February 2006, the candidates for the Republican nomination for Illinois Governor began running their first TV ads for the March statewide primary election. Rival candidate Ron Gidwitz's advertisements, attacking Topinka, were rebuked in the same week by the Illinois Republican Party: "In an unprecedented action, the Illinois Republican Party has officially rebuked the Gidwitz campaign for this ad because the Party found that the ad violates the Party's "Code of Conduct," which was enacted to police proper conduct among Republican candidates."
Later in February, candidate Jim Oberweis, another rival for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, started a series of attack ads for television markets, against Topinka, that were even more widely criticized, mostly for using "fake" headlines on the images of actual Illinois newspapers.[2][3] These ads, like Gidwitz's ads, also came under review by the Illinois Republican Party.[4] Because of the controversy generated, several television stations withdrew Oberweis's ads.[5]
On March 21, 2006, Topinka won the Republican nomination with 37 percent of the vote.
On November 7, 2006, she lost the race to Blagojevich, giving an upbeat, humorous speech after his acceptance speech. In it she thanked many, hoped that more young people would be interested in public service, and wished all well.[citation needed]
After her 2006 defeat in the polls, she auctioned off much of her political memorabilia from her campaign office in January 2007.[citation needed]

Re: Farmerkev can sure pick a governor!
He could make a decent speech, tho I think he was rather overrated in that regard and hadn't a snowball's chance at high national office, let alone President. Obama he ain't. And he did a few good and/or popular things, tho how he did them was a bit dodgy.
After a four-day trial, the Illinois Senate voted 59-0 to convict him of abuse of power, automatically ousting the second-term Democrat. Democratic Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn, one of his critics, immediately became governor.
In a second 59-0 vote, the Senate further barred Blagojevich from ever holding public office in Illinois again.
The gory details.
He showed up to speechify this last day (closing statement), but that's all; he left before the vote[s]. Conventional wisdom is he gave up on the impeachment as a lost cause, and the media blitz is about the coming criminal trial. It only takes one to make for a hung jury.
