Are you guys kidding?

Yay! I can control Windows from my iPhone now! Thanks, Mac|Life!
I signed up for Mac|Life Newsletters, not spam. I signed up for Mac|Life newsletters because I don't use Windows. Way to fail on both counts.

Read it again: PCs and Macs.
It's just a VNC client or something similar. Not exactly groundbreaking.
Spam... well... spam sucks.

Re: Are you guys kidding?
First that is not limited simply to remote login and control of Windows systems according to their website (it supports remote login and control of Macs as well). Secondly it is obviously targeted at drones whom may need to grab important files from a system they don't have immediate physical access. Third Future tends to bulk buy ads for all their magazines and sites and it isn't that unlikely that those receiving newsletters from Nintendo Power, Official Xbox Magazine, PC Gamer, PlayStation: The Official Magazine, GamesRadar, Next Generation, Guitar World, Guitar Legends, Revolver, Maximum PC, Windows Vista: The Official Magazine & Pregnancy will also get such ads.

I did see that. I also saw the images they used which trumpet the Windows compatibility far more loudly than the one mention of Mac does.
And more importantly:

I didn't sign up for spam, I signed up for their newsletter. If there are ads in the newsletter as well as information, so be it. This was spam, pure and simple.
I'm no longer signed up for the bait and switch.

Re: Are you guys kidding?
In all fairness, when you signed up, there was probably some blurb at the bottom of the page, or a link to a full-length TOS, that would have notified you that your email address would be marketed at.
There almost always is.
But yeah, that's why I sign up for nothing.

There are plenty of Windows users hereabouts, whether they're crossplatformers or simply those who use it at work. That's why there's Boot Camp (the forum), formerly Windows for Addicts... also this is an iPhone ad. If you use an iPhone, you're at least aware of Macs if not an owner/user. It can be nearly assumed.

Myself, I was reffing the mag's and site's ads, the one you cited in particular. Said nothing about emails.

No.
But being particularly offended because it's an ad for iPhone app with Windows compatibility is kind of... well...

That was the icing on the cake. The cake would still have been particularly unpleasant without it.

Re: Are you guys kidding?
Not really spam, IMO. It's an ad that signed up to receive (albeit unwittingly) along with a newsletter. It sucks to get junk mail but you have only yourself the blame for they invited stuff. Better just to get mad about the uninvited stuff. Beyond that 'but being particularly offended because it's an ad for iPhone app with Windows compatibility (as well as Mac compatibility) is kind of... well...'

This is strictly about an email. There was no newsletter content in it, just the graphic in the opening post.

1. Spam Sucks
2. If I could use Finale on my iPhone and use it well I'd purchase that app in a heartbeat
3. I wish there were an iPhone version of Finale (Completely unrelated, but I don't care).

Doesn't bother me. Spam does suck.
