My two favorites:
1-no cut and paste (copy-paste then delete, why?)
2-no one-click restore to original location for something that has been in the trash bin for some time (in other words, I don't remember the original location)

1- Cause smurf happens and cut and paste offer little to no insurance when it does.

I literally cannot tell you how many times I was called from my computer and forgot or was otherwise distracted by something I was in the middle of copy & paste activity and as a result accidently overwrote what was in the clipboard in the process. I also cant count the number of copy & paste activities I've done were I've highlighted something to replace and accidently overwrote what was in the clipboard in the process.

Re: We all love OS X, but what are your biggest annoyances with it?

Well, honestly, cut and paste in windows does not allow the "cut" until after the "paste" has been completed and verified.

To do the cut and paste, you "cut" in the old location, and "paste" after going to the new location. So you are at the right location. If you fail to complete the transaction, nothing is done, therefore no damage. That's how it is in windowz, and it works-all the time.

So, I can tell you how may of the thousands of such operations I have had difficulty with, and that is zero.

PS-You understand, I mean in the OS, where one is moving files, icons, and folders, not in a word processor, like the one we are using now, where cut and paste like you describe is allowed for moving text. But that is not an OS feature.

The only thing that really bugs me is the lack of persistence in my finder window settings.

I think that's a bug in the Back/Forth navigation buttons If I'm in a Folder that is set to remember a specific view it will remember it so long as I access via clicking it's folder, alias, sidebar item, Dock's "Open in Finder", Name in Spotlight search or "Show in Finder" but if I access it by click the back button or the Forward button in the tool bar it will temporarilly take on the Window settings of the window I was just in. I say temporarily because I could trigger the button and even if I leave the window open an unchanged after triggering the bug navigating to the folder again in another window it will display it properly in that Window.

My (mostly Finder) annoyances:

1. After emptying the Trash from the Dock, view is always diverted to a Finder window (if there's one open). I know that Trash is part of Finder, but I still find it annoying.
2. No ability to assign hot key functionality to Back-Forth navigation in the Finder (e.g., Delete to go Back, Shift-Delete to go forward, much like in a web browser). Instead, I have to use the mouse to arrow back / arrow forward. This is something I miss from Windows.
3. Flaky functionality of Alt/Option key in Exposé, to display names of all windows open.

Re: We all love OS X, but what are your biggest annoyances with it?

I love OS X, and would probably stop using computers if OS X went away. With that said, my two top pet peeves with the OS are:

1. No user control of foremost app. OS 9 had it, but OS X lost it. For ex., I'm in Photoshop working away, but I want to sync my iPhone. Plug in a Pod, and watch OS X tell you what app you should have Frontmost. Why would I want iTunes to become the Frontmost window unless I choose it to be? Becomes an even bigger drag the more apps and Spaces I'm using.

2. Find File (cmd - F) is a mess; can I say it? Why can't I add sort criteria to a results window, like I can in a normal Finder window? All I get is Name, Kind, and Last Opened? Why can't I cmd-click on the Sort bar and add new criteria? Also, even with Invisible files as a selector, it's difficult to search for files in the System or Library folders; I know this is probably to prevent goobers from messing their systems, but really... I can handle it.

Moving a bunch of custom Garageband settings, recently, would've been a lot faster if Find File would let me search Library > Application Support.

You can't do that with Finder Search / Spotlight, because Spotlight seems rather "neutered" (as you mentioned, Apple probably doesn't want noobs playing around with the /Library/ files). I once downloaded Google Desktop, thinking it would allow a deeper search capability than Spotlight does. Nope.

As far as keeping a watered-down Spotlight in Leopard (and Snow Leopard?) is concerned, perhaps Apple should realize that not all of us are noobs.

Yeah, thats about right...the main issue I have with it is that if I have a folder with tons of files in it, it won't always remember where I had last scrolled to in that window.

I had this happen to me too many times in Tiger-especially when working with music files in the iTunes folder. Really aggravating. Haven't used Leopard enough to see if the problem continued.

I would like for the back and forward buttons to be spring loaded so I can drag and drop while only having one window open.
