March issue-lack of innovation is good strategy
The focus of the March issue appears to be let's ping Apple for lack of innovation at this year Mac Expo. Editor in chief Leslie Ayers believes Apple should release a life changing gadget every year. The reviews of the Mac Expo tediously repeat the "we're underwhelmed" theme.
I couldn't disagree more with this attitude about Apple's business strategy. Now is not the time for Apple to release new "big ideas" products. It would not be good business strategy for Apple to invest in major product roll outs when demand is at an all time low caused by people delaying purchases until the economy improves. Rather, Apple is doing exactly what it should be doing, improving current technology, conserving its cash and hopefully investing in new R&D and purchasing technology while prices are down. Apple buyers are not switching to other products, they are just waiting to buy, like everyone else. Apple is correctly viewing the current economy as a time of building pent up demand. That pent up demand will eventually uncork, and when that happens Apple will be ready with its next life changing gadget. Timing is everything.
