Apple //e problem
Not sure this goes here, but it is an Apple problem that I do need help with although it is an Apple //e
I have an old Apple Monitor II. It works fine when I first turn it on, but after about 4 or 5 min of use the vertical hold goes crazy and no amount of adjusting will fix it. Is there anyone here who might know what the problem is?

Now that is definitely vintage.
Just so you know this belong there (not that you are like likely to get an adequate response here or there) but before I move it, it sounds like the vertical hold is failing but it takes that 4-5 to become apparent (probably due to the electronics heating up).

Re: Apple //e problem
CRTs do stuff like that when they are near death.
Did you try it with a different screen? The video out should plug into a TV just fine, iirc. If the monitor's shot, it's shot. Disposable society = no TV repairmen.

Re: Apple //e problem
I know it's a generic answer, but it also IS the answer to a lot of monitor problems. The flyback transformer is probably dying. The good news is that they're generally cheap. The bad news is that if you don't know how to replace once, the labor cost is usually far more than a replacement monitor would cost.

A regular TV won't have a good enough resolution (that's what I first tried with my Franklin). You could replace it with a hi def model, but that would be worth more than the computer. Is this a system that you are actually still using?

Yeah, I'm still using the system, just for fun. The system works fine, I normally have to plug it in to my eyetv and it shows up on my mac slightly, slightly wonky but still very usable. Well, it looks like I might need a new Monitor II, its a shame because everything on it works fine for the first 5 min, bright green text and all.
