*Another* Performa Question!!!!!
I know you guys are getting sick of this relentless quest of mine, but I just cannot find out any info on how large a hard drive I can put in this 6360. I want to put in a 80GB drive and make it into a server, but I don't know if the board can see 80GB or not and am not spending the money if it don't!!
I just bought a Twin Turbo 8MB video card, the 256 Cache upgrade, the comm 2 slot ethernet card, and all I got left is the hard drive question....wait....one more!!!!
I have a cable modem, how do I get my iBook and my 6360 to share it? What do I need for that too!!! Thanks everyone, this has truly helped me out big time!

Re: *Another* Performa Question!!!!!
Get a Router to share the cable connection. I have a MacSense router. You would probably need PCI ethernet card, mines an Asante 10/100 Mac/PC card, iBook probably already has a 10/100/1G Ether card.
Plug both macs into ethernet ports, plug ether cord from cable modem into router 'in' ethernet port, login to router 'webpage' control panel by typing in an ip address into your web browser, setup any required info for your cable isp service, apply the changes & surf. At least that's how mine worked. I also had to set up static IP addresses when the X.0 beta was out as it didn't quit like my router for some reason, but DHCP works fine on my 6400, it was just OS X that I had problems with. Mine also has a demilitarized zone so that you can pass thru traffic to one of the (static) ip addresses so a computer can be a webserver and handle page requests.
As to the hard drive size, you might check out http://www.lowendmacs.com for upgrade info on specific models. Hope this helps! -mike e.

Re: *Another* Performa Question!!!!!
I've never... wait a minute...just dropped an 80 GB into my 6400 (same motherboard) we'll find out in a minute. Boot, accursed machine.
Incidentally, do you know how hard it is to get the cover off a 6400? Ugh.
Tada - recognizes all 75 GB of storage. So will your 6360. (It's a Maxtor 80 GB 7200 rpm drive, btw.)
Incidentally, there are three cutoffs for IDE drive size. Really old controllers have trouble with drives larger than 512 MBs. Some controllers only recognize the first 36 GBsof storage space, and more recent controllers which aren't quite new enough, max out at 140 or so. Incidentally, you may encounter the 36 GB limit - there are some jumpers on the drive which are set incorrectly, just fix them and you'll be fine.

Yep, went thru that ungodly process twice, once to install the Asante 10/100 Ethernet card and once to install the Sonnet G3/400Mhz L2 Cache card. Don't want to have to do that again if I can help it ('cept maybe to put in a graphics card to get to 1million colors 'stead of thousands).

To instal cards, you only have to pull out themotherboard tray out of the back... it's not that hard. I mean the _front_ cover, the one covering the hard drive, CD-ROM and floppy drive bay. That one's a finger-buster.

Re: *Another* Performa Question!!!!!
Yeah, but mine was a used machine so I decided to take ALL the panels off to give it a good vacuuming (using Wet/Dry Shop Vac with micro attachments). I also wanted to see just what I could install in the other bay slot on the front and the speaker on the bottom was muffled (like its blown) so I wanted to look at and clean it as well.
Got many nicks on that little adventure, but learned a lot about taking that Mac apart (even tho I probably don't remember half of it now). -mike
