Tyan up and died

My 6 year old Tyan Tiger dual Opteron board died. Got fried in an electrical surge a few years back but hung on until last week. First the USB went, then the SATA controller failed, now it just hangs the system at random.

So all the components got loaded onto a new ASUS K8N-DRE server board, which fits into the old Antec 1030 (after removing the lower hard drive holders), and the system's back up and running. I didn't even have to re-install the OS. XP just loaded the new on-board drivers and my uncle is Bob. Big performance jump going from 6 year old M/B to a recent one. Much improved memory performance. Upside, my PCI-E NV 7900 replaces the 7300 AGP from the old system. Downside, only one PCI slot that must take the scsi card which means my sound is on a USB "nubbin" that sticks out the back.

The Tyan Thunder is still cranking along, but it's a much newer, higher end board.

The King is dead! Long live the King!

I'm not dead yet.

It's done now. I've unsoldered all the capacitors and into the dumpster it went. I make phono pre-amplifiers and many of the capacitors work well for my needs. I always hate discarding stuff like that.
