What kinda RAM does an Everex netbook take?

My dad's got one, and I've got some PC5300 laptop memory I can give him, but he can't seem to find specs on what kinda RAM it takes. I quote from a recent e-mail from Dad:

"My laptop is an Everex model VA350E. You won't find it listed anywhee on the Everex web site. They have never issued an owner's manual. Everex claims it's the same as model #VA4101M, despite the fact the first one has a VIA cpu, while the second has an Intel. I could try sending an e mail to tech support, but they would no doubt tell me I have to buy RAM chips from Everex."

Well, does anybody out there know the answer, or at least where to look?

Thank you kindly!

That model isn't listed on Crucial's website either.

Look at it this way - if the slot isn't DDR2, I'm pretty sure it won't fit. Most motherboards will also have the type of RAM used written on the slot. The information is also usually available if you boot into BIOS and poke around. You don't need change anything, just look for where it says DDR, DDR2, PC-133, PC-5300, or whatever.

If the ram is the right type but too slow for the machine, that's where you might have a problem.

An older VIA-powered laptop is probably using PC-133 or DDR, however. The older VIA chips used Pentium 3 chipsets.

Re: What kinda RAM does an Everex netbook take?

A Google search using "everex laptop ram" for the search terms came up with this page which gives the specs for the RAM in the VA350E as 200-pin DDR2 PC2-5300 (although PC2-4200 can be used). This page also says that the total RAM is limited to 2 GBs so the largest RAM you can get is 1 GB for each of its 2 slots, and the RAM does not have to be matching pairs (so you could put in 1.5 GBs if that is what you have).

It's like it's closing time, you have your beer googles on and all the search topics look really good.

I thought only girls had googles!

Really nice googles. Googles that fit in the palm of your hand and...
