SysTray programs, services, antivirus, Windows Update, etc. don't count towards the three app limit. I agree most casual users I know wouldn't be too bothered by a 3 app limit.

What about malware and adware? Do those count?

Quite frankly I don't know what the fuss is about. You can always install a real OS on those machines.

My dad owns two netbooks. Yeah. Bummer. But he is a novelty computer buyer. He owns a 12'' EEE with XP on it and a 7'' Sony Vaio with Vista Home Basic on it. Both computers are uber slow on anything except internet related tasks (Google Earth excluded). The Vaio's screen is so small we had to change the resolution settings so we could read what was on the screen without the magnifying glass. My computer is an Air. So where does that fit in the novelty computer category; it is extremely thin. At least it's powerful enough for what I use it and it has full size screens and keyboards.
