Re: Francis: "I Hate Sequels"
Quite a backlash seems to be building around L4D2.
Left 4 Dead 2 was announced on Monday and with it came a slew of new videos and screenshots. However not all is well, the Steam forums have gone into meltdown with angry gamers. Specifically the Left 4 Dead 2 forum. Hundreds of very vocal users are very annoyed that Left 4 Dead 2 has been announced a mere 7 months after the original was released. This means during the time from release they were focusing on L4D2 and not content patches for L4D, perhaps why the 2 versus map ports took so long. L4D has only received survival mode and one new small map for that mode.
They feel let down, they feel they have now paid $50 for a game that will not receive extra content in the form of maps / characters and weapons. They are disappointed that modders won't bother with L4D anymore now L4D2 is on the horizon. Perhaps importantly they feel like they were conned into buying a product under the false information that they would get more content. Really it's all because of Valves previous efforts, or current works with TF2. If it was any other developer fans would probably not be as angry, but here we have the once great Valve now treating L4D like a roster update.
Steam thread: "A concise list of what people are actually angry about" 700+ Replies
Steam Group: L4D2 Boycott (NO-L4D2) 2114 members
While many people relish the L4D2 news, a large number of fans are quite frustrated by this uncharacteristic move from Valve. NGN personally is disappointed in the move, when the game has barely been out 7 months a sequel - not new content for the original - is set for release November this year.
UPDATE: To add insult to injury, Doug Lombardi has confirmed to Shacknews that "This is a full priced sequel. At the end of the day, this is going to be a bigger game than Left 4 Dead. It's five campaigns versus four, all five are playable in Versus mode, Survival mode out of the box, the new multiplayer game mode. Plus over 20 new weapons and items. It's a full sequel." So it will be full priced.

Shacknews interview (with Doug Lombardi)
Edit, above:
Shack: Flamethrower? Not saying?
Chet Faliszek: No. We like fire though.
Shack: Did I notice an improved fire effect?
Chet Faliszek: Yeah.
Shack: It seems like it travels from zombie to zombie.

Re: Francis: "I Hate Sequels"
I can understand their rage. This was rather quick for L4D2. In fact, looking at some ingame footage today, it looks the same cept with different models and maps. Personally I think this should have been done with a content pack update but its possible with the changes to AI director that they saw that would be too restrictive. They did state old maps could be ported to L4D2 without much hassle but it could be different the other way around.
Personally I wouldn't mind them doing a Half Life EP3 and just postponing this for awhile till they got multiple campaigns in different geographic areas and multiple characters to choose from. Can you say..Left 4 Dead Tokyo!
Heck, even a Shaun of the Dead campaign or something in Europe. Then ooo ooo...a Cold Fear style campaign...Left 4 Dead at sea!! 4 survivors, 1 cruise ship, zombies, and a stormy sea...rock the boat baby!!
Bat we'd prolly have you play either the biker dude or the old man
. Usually theres a fight over who gets to play Zoey anyways.

Sturner haz dibs on the vet. I guess I get whatever other old guy is left. And hey, only $50- $60 for an improved particle system in Source. Gordo benefits, in two years or so.
So Books allus hazta play Zoey or the server goes down?
I gotta see what Zero Punctuation has on L4D.

Ya I know, just you had Ero Senin for so long that it surprised me to see a new one
. I liked Toradora. Was a fun one to watch.
I use mine with some custom words in L4D as a wall spray. Just seemed like the perfect Haruhi pose to taunt survivors with.

And L4D is still 40 bucks.
Once it goes down to 30 I'll definitely buy. I missed all the discount offerings of the past.Amazon sells it for $27. (that's where I bought it... 4 days before they sold it on Steam for $24...) You can hook it up to your steam account with the CD key once it arrives, and it'll be available for download everywhere else as if you bought it on Steam.
Amazon.ca doesn't have it for PC. And this is what I get from Amazon.com
Items: $27.99
Shipping & Handling: $23.98
Total Before Tax: $51.97
Estimated Tax:* $0.00
Import Fees Deposit $4.96
Order Total: $56.93
USD of course

Wow, that's a ridiculous shipping cost for shipping something that weighs essentially nothing and no more distance than any of the states within the US.

Mine signifies one of the causes of my latest gaming fail as well as the cause of the other cause. Keep your mouth shut in here if you figure out what I mean.

Something coming, something good. Something coming, something good.
Left 4 Dead Patch Next Week [Jun 20, 2009, 4:04 pm ET]
A new post on the Left 4 Dead Blog describes plans for the next update for Valve's co-op zombie shooter, saying a new version will be available next week that concentrates on custom campaigns. Included will be new support for third-party campaigns, a retooled matchmaking system, and the non-beta release of the Left 4 Dead authoring tools. Also promised is a new update on their Developer Community wiki on how to package up your custom Left 4 Dead campaigns and add-ons.
