Why won't my mac stay awake?

I have a 1.25 DDM G4 with 10.2.8 and I've noticed that when i put it to sleep and woke it up, it will only stay up for a few seconds and then go back to sleep mode. I've check my systems preference and it was positioned to 'never sleep'. It would go to sleep mode even when shutting it down and I have to wake her up again and after getting it to shot down it didn't help either.

I would consider replacing the PRAM battery.  (Ha, I don't even know what they look like.   goople provides   http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/item/2524/NWTBAA36VPRAM/ )

Radio Shack is said to have them.

Re: Why won't my mac stay awake?

I had my battery replaced a year ago. I tried to  reset the PRAM and PMU but will still go to sleep. Before I did this I decided to boot from an external drive with 10.3 and the computer is functioning normally But using the internal drive to boot then the problem is still there but one thing I've noticed is that if you use the mouse to wake the computer it will still go to sleep but using the on switch to wake it up seems to work. Is there a setting for the mouse with regards to sleep?confused

Before going through changing the battery, (Which lasts several years)  got to:
SYSTEM PREFERENCES>ENERGY SAVER
and set the time for sleep. Choices range from 1 minute to never.
Hope this helps.

Keepin' it simple.
