Best Buy is taking reservations for the new iPhone 3G S
Just thought I'd share.
I made an appointment for 11 am on launch day. No line.
They only have 1 reservation available every 30 minutes, at least for the Mission Valley store in San Diego.
You have to purchase a $50 gift card to get your reservation, but it can obviously be applied to the purchase price on Friday.
Normally, I would have bought the phone at Apple BUT Apple is very disorganized, even to the point where the "Reservation" doesn't guarantee that you'll actually get the phone.
3G S here I come!

Well, I guess you should just cross your fingers that Best Buy's organization isn't just an illusion.
Personally, I ordered mine from ATT and they promised launch day delivery. I may have to wait a few extra hours for FedEx to get here, but at least there's no line. I waited in the first iPhone line 2 years ago and I just don't feel like doing it again. Not for an iPhone, anyway.

Well, that works. Less of the day to get through.

25 minutes from walking in the door to having the phone activated.

The good thing about this is the much better protection plan you can opt for under Best Buy as opposed to Apple Care (though you lose the over the phone support this really doesn't matter if you have an Apple Store near by).

Re: Best Buy is taking reservations for the new iPhone 3G S
We went down Friday afternoon without pre-ordering and only waited about ten minutes. It took a while to get the phones activated, the sales associate was having difficulty with his handheld. I think it's partially because while the new model is nice, 3G users get most features with the software update.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.
