"Missing" South Carolina Gov or "publicity" stunt ?
Fox News link
Apparently the news cycle jumped on this pretty hard yesterday, even Talking Points Memo (which I might have hoped would not give so much press to a non-story).
Call me cynical, but the media focus makes it feel like a stunt to keep his name in the news as Republicans start early jostling for Presidential runs. Or the 24-hour news media is hungry for anything new ?
I guess my Left Coast elitism is coloring my view...I mean, South Carolina doesn't have their governor available for a few days ? Who cares ?
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

Special place, South Carolina.

Isn't the South Carolina legislature part time? How will the state function without their king?

Are any states other than possibly California and New York "full time" legislatures ?
I've heard Texas' legislature meets every other year.

Yeah, Texas has a "citizen" legislature. If they were full-time no telling what those idiots would come up with.

True enough. The california legislature seems beyond repair. From a abstract, Madisonian perspective though, the part time legislature can't really check a Governor who's gone off the rails. I suppose that I had hoped for a more thorough investigation of Palin.

Re: "Missing" South Carolina Gov or "publicity" stunt ?
Pennsylvania's General Assembly has 253 members. This makes us the 2nd largest state legislature in the US by members, and the largest full-time legislature as they meet all year long. Seems rather excessive to me for a population of 12.5 million. Our state capitol, modeled after St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, was wildly over budget due to the hidden costs due to graft by the corrupt Republican governor Samuel Whitaker Pennypaker. He even charged the taxpayer for the air under the furniture.

OMG, did anyone catch the SC lieutenant governor on TV -- André Bauer? What a Republican closet case -- 40 years old, no wife, was a cheer leader in college, huge Lindsey Graham supporter. Nuf said.

What's the big deal? Our first prime minister liked to disappear without a trace and go off on week long drinking binges. Hiking at least is good for you.

I seem to recall Mulroney went on a hell of an off-the-radar bender after Meech Lake collapsed.

Close. Or at least, closer than the Appalachian Trail story. Argentina. Presumably with Nazis.

For the record, there are states (or Commonwealths) with "full-time" legislatures.
