To me, Bethesda does a poor job of patching games. Fallout 3 out for eight months and still not fixed; their downloadable content buggy; etc. Zeniamax claims nothing will change but I have my doubts.

oops. spelling errors.

Re: Zenimax acquires ID software

I decided to not release it until I was paid a lot more.

But they may ignore my threats and go ahead and release it.

Am I really the only one who thinks this is good news?  John C + Bethesda = one impressive-looking Quake RPG that won't suck balls.

Re: Zenimax acquires ID software

id Software will continue to operate as a studio under the direction of its founder, John Carmack. No changes will be made in the operations of id Software in the development of its games. All the principals at id Software have signed long-term employment contracts, assuring they will continue in their roles developing games at the studio.

“This puts id Software in a wonderful position going forward,” said John Carmack, who will continue to serve in his current role as Technical Director. “We will now be able to grow and extend all of our franchises under one roof, leveraging our capabilities across multiple teams while enabling forward looking research to be done in the service of all of them. We will be bigger and stronger, as we recruit the best talent to help us build the landmark games of the future. As trite as it may be for me to say that I am extremely pleased and excited about this deal, I am.”

He may ignore my threats and release it anyway.

Btw, if it wasn't clear...

EA Still Publishing Rage [Jun 25, 2009, 09:27 am ET]

Despite the owner change, EA is still publishing Rage (to be sung in your best Billy Corgan voice). This is the report on GamesIndustry.biz, where they say EA will still publish id Software's Rage, in spite of id's acquisition by ZeniMax Media, owner of rival publisher Bethesda Softworks. EA's statement on the topic is pretty terse: "EA's agreement with id Software for Rage remains unchanged."

And now...

QUAKE(s) & More of id's iPhone Plans [Jun 29, 2009, 4:44 pm ET]

There's a John Carmack interview on MTV Multiplayer talking about DOOM Resurrection, the upcoming DOOM iPhone game. A separate topic that comes up along the way is future plans, as the id Technical Director reveals ambitions to bring QUAKE, QUAKE II, and QUAKE III Arena to Apple's smartphone as well. He says there's "no doubt" that QUAKE and QUAKE II are coming to the iPhone and that QUAKE III Arena will be possible "if Apple winds up addressing just a few things in their system software," though he says QUAKE III Arena "would not be a problem at all" on the iPhone 3GS. He also touches on plans for a RAGE-themed iPhone game, that possible confusion with Wolfenstein RPG is what's holding up the release of Wolfenstein 3D Classic, and that he envisions a DOOM 2 RPG in the future as well. He acknowledges this is a pretty heavy schedule, saying, "I expect we’ll have an iPhone project every two to three months over the next year." On a semi-related note, Joystiq has a brief story on how DOOM Resurrection was originally planned as a Wii game.
