If you have to fly all the way to Argentina to get some ass I wouldn't call that irresistible.

I have to admit a certain admiration for his style.
An international flight to an exotic locale, an affair with a spicy Latin woman and carousing at an Argentine nigh spot.
If you're going to toss your marriage and career away that's just a fantastic way to do it.
Head and shoulders cooler than all the mundane sex scandals we have had these last few years. Makes meth and a gay hooker look so pedestrian.

Yeah but crying about it in a South Carolina press conference pretty much negates all that.

I'm a bit surprised that no one has pointed out that unlike his peers, this clown went for an attractive woman. This could very well be the first big heterosexual Republican scandal in years.

So, really, it was Federal money.

See - if we had much lower taxes, there wouldn't have been money for him to use.

In all seriousness, there was a lot of talk about him being the next rising star of the party, etc., and whether conscious or not - I think this stunt was because the attention he was receiving and the pressure to be the savior of the party was more than he wanted, so he went and did something rash to make sure he couldn't be the person the party is looking to.

What about Rudy Giuliani ??
This Giuliani scandal keeps getting better and better. First Politico found that when Rudy Giuliani was mayor of New York, he billed the costs of his extramarital love trysts with Judith Nathan, his then-girlfriend and now-wife, to obscure city agencies. It was also shown that Giuliani billed his 2000 campaign expenses and his then-wife Donna Hanover's travel expenses to the same obscure agencies. The Giuliani campaign has had a hell of a time explaining the mayor's actions.

Re: "Missing" South Carolina Gov or "publicity" stunt ?
Some Republican state lawmakers are privately saying they want Republican Gov. Mark Sanford to step down — of his own volition — this week.
Meanwhile, Sanford has spent portions of the last few days phoning key lawmakers and Republican Party activists, apologizing for his affair with an Argentinian woman that left him out of touch with his staff and other state leaders for the better part of a week.
On another note, a source close to Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said Sunday that Bauer has approached members of the Senate to discuss the possibility that, if Sanford resigns, Bauer would only serve the remainder of the governor’s term, focusing on job creation, and would not run for governor in 2010 as Bauer had originally intended.
“(Lawmakers) have given (Sanford) 72 hours of breathing room,” said Katon Dawson, immediate past chairman of the state Republican Party, who said he has spent the last few days playing referee between lawmakers who want the governor out and those who want to give him another chance. “But I think, early next week, their patience will run out.”

I saw him say he wouldn't step down.
Meanwhile, the lady in question has stepped forward ... and we now have a picture of her. Well, not so much a picture as a smurfy screen grab:
"I have decided to send this statement to clear up certain incorrect things that are being reported and put an end to a matter that, as you imagine, is very painful to me, my two children, my entire family and close friends."
Chapur said someone accessed her Hotmail account last year and leaked emails describing a relationship with Sanford to the South Carolina newspaper The State.
But she denied the "hacker" is a friend of hers – as has been widely reported here – saying he, too, is a victim of the media frenzy.
People who know Chapur describe her as an elegant, soft-spoken woman who speaks several languages. She is a graduate in political science from the Catholic University of Buenos Aires and the divorced mother of two sons.

Poor guy is having to choose between money and power, and true love. If he wasn't such a toolbox, he'd leave his wife, resign from office, and fly to Argentina.
I would bet on the former, though.

Re: "Missing" South Carolina Gov or "publicity" stunt ?
Sanford is a member of a right-wing, fundamentalist, heretical, tax-dodging, yet highly influential prayer group.
Some highlights of "The Family":
- Founded in the Depression to support capitalism, since they think the invisible hand of capitalism is God's hand and that socialism is a sin because it tries to control the markets that God is actually controlling.
- The group also has an alleged connection to a house in Washington, D.C. known as C Street, which serves as a prayer house and residence for politicians like Governor Mark Sanford, Senator John Ensign and Senator Tom Coburn.
- Sanford's King David allusion is not just wacky Bible references, but is straight from the preaching of this group, that he is like King David as someone who has messed up in his personal life but is anointed by God to be a leader so he cannot resign
- Heretical by any Christian standards, in that they believe they have special knowledge of God
- Believed that Suharto was a "man chosen by God" since he slaughtered commies like they were Canaanites
Wow. It's a good, if disturbing, listen.

These are the guys who organize the National Prayer Breakfast.
The President (the current one) is part of that event. It's too big to brush off. Ike was the only one to reject them, and that was in their first years.
Think about that.

God is everywhere! Except when one is breaking their vows of matrimony.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.
