AirPort Express as a repeater for Linksys WRT54G wireless router
I've tried this in the past but I continue to have problems getting this to work.
This blog post gives me hope that it is definitely doable, I just need your help as I get lost along the way.
So I follow the instructions and set up the AirPort Express to use 128-bit WEP and I give the network that it creates (since if it joins the preexisting network then it isn't utilizing WDS at all, according to the blog post's comments) the same name as the wireless network created by my Linksys router. I apply the settings but from there the AirPort Utility application cannot locate the AirPort Express. Any thoughts? If I connect the AirPort Express via ethernet to the wireless router (which my MacBook is connected to via wifi), then it is recognizable, but I get stuck at the instruction that tells me:
Set "Connect Using" to "AirPort (WDS)"
I have Mac OS X 10.5.7, AirPort Utility 5.4.2, and the Linksys WRT54G version 6 with the latest firmware. In the AirPort Utility application, in the Internet section, I select the "Internet Connection" tab and the "Connect Using" field only gives me two options in the drop-down menu: ethernet and PPPoe. I have no idea what to do now, nor do I know where I am supposed to paste the Linksys router's MAC address, as that is one of the most important steps.
Any comments are greatly appreciated, as I am trying to set up my AirPort Express as a repeater to avoid needing to buy a new router. My dad's computer gets wifi via a USB adaptor which is tucked in the corner of his office room. He gets flaky wifi internet access even though the other computers in the house work just fine. If I could get the AirPort Express working as a repeater, I could set it up in his office and thus avoid needing to buy any new hardware.
Thanks for any suggestions!
