What a total crock of you-know-what! (Jackson-related)

Of all the insufferably gratuitous, loads of BS I've ever heard, this really take the cake:

At this very moment, as we speak, there is a guest on Coast-to-Coast AM purporting to channel the spirit of Michael Jackson, and being addressed as such.

From the Web site of the "channeller":

*** Breaking News Update :: Interview Michael Jackson LIVE: Michael Jackson has indicated he would like to do a LIVE interview(s) after making connections through Medium Dr. Christian von Lähr and giving him pages of detailed information about his life, what it's like on the other side, his assets and a secret trust account set-up for his children.

*** Breaking News :: The Real Story Behind Michael Jackson's Death: Michael Jackson's death did not come out of nowhere - he has been sick for quite some time with Mercer Disease. Get the behind the scenes information to save him. Serious Media Inquiries only - 336 359 8082. Click Here for more Details.

This guy needs a serious beating.

What annoys me the most is every media outlet is pretending like they always loved the guy through thick and thin when just about every media outlet out there loved to circle him like a shark in the water, called for him to lose his child (remember the baby and balcony incident ??) etc.

Re: What a total crock of you-know-what! (Jackson-related)

I'd actually forgotten all about that. I find it also quite sick that so much of the misty-eyed eulogizing and reportage seems to just barely hint at his alleged pedophilia. No, he wasn't convicted, but that doesn't mean he was innocent.

This is a common theme with sexual predators who happen to be black and famous. The music industry was thrilled to pump out posthumous albums and videos celebrating the life and crappy music of Tupac Shakur, despite his being a rapist, and now I see that the new comedy about partying in Las Vegas prominently features convicted rapist Mike Tyson in its trailer, portraying him in a comedic light.

There are more examples, but it may take me a moment to think of them. Generally I try to avoid thinking about pop stars and athletes as much as possible.

Well, since he wasn't convicted, for the media to outright call him a pedo would be libel.

Being a pedophile and engaging in pedophilia are not the same.

And, as a public figure, he would have to show that the media acted either knowing the statement was false or in reckless disregard of the truth (first amendment and all that).  The fact he was acquitted does not mean in the eyes of the law the statement is false, it means the statement was not proven to a reasonable doubt.

There was sufficient complaints by individuals suggesting he did stuff like that to shield a newspaper/media broadcast from slander/libel.  Reckless disregard for the truth is a pretty tough standard to show.

So, does this mean future MJ retrospective & "best of" albums will sport this?

By the way, since I brought it up, I'll say that my statement about rapists who are famous and black is the kind of thing you often hear from overt and covert racists. That ain't me. I feel the media, and the consumers of mainstream culture are actually being racist when they give these sickos a free pass, 'cause it's based on a tacit assumption that black men can't be expected to control themselves.

Are you black, Sturner?

It's a good thing if you are, 'cause sometimes the Mac|Life forums feel like an all-white sausage party.

Re: What a total crock of you-know-what! (Jackson-related)

So am I, with some Romanian Jews thrown into the family tree, just for good measure.

Here's an ethnic joke that I made up regarding the various peeps from which I am descended:

Q: What's the best thing about being Jewish and Irish?

A: You never pay retail for your liquor!

Well, as Irish, you're not drunk as long as you can hold onto a single blade of grass tokeep from falling off the face of the earth.

Well if you pay attention to the media, black men are more likely to rape your wife and white men are more likely to rape your kid.
Jackson didn't start getting the pedo accusations until he turned white...
