i'm actually hooking up with a friend from NY (his family is from northern spain) so it should be quite painful...i mean interesting...lol

No, I never got to spain. However, I found that the other rules apply equally well to the rest of Europe. So why not Spain?

I strongly suggest day trips away from Madrid. Doing the touristy things you can only spend about 3 days in Madrid. However, Toledo, Segovia, Avila, and El Escorial are all close by (an hour or two by bus). They are all worth a visit. You could also consider taking the Avé bullet train to Barcelona or Sevilla to get a different taste of Spain.

thanks for the advice
i will be with a freind who has been to spain a few times(he has family in northern spain)
plus we will hook up with some family members....and so on.
plus it's 3 guys with no wives...i see the days flying by....lol
