Quicksilver 2002 dead...
I have a QS 2002 which was having trouble booting. Based on my troubleshooting it wouldn't boot up from the hard drive, but it would boot fine from the Techtool Pro DVD, which said the drive was bad (bitmap was bad). It also booted up fine from the OS X install DVD. Since the secondary HD was good I decided to install OS X on that one also and fix the problem. Well, it didn't work. It booted up using the secondary HD and I had it run Time Machine to make sure everything was backed up. When I returned, the machine had locked up a few minutes after starting the backp. (I have the clock show seconds so I know exactly when/if a lockup happens). I rebooted and when the finder appeared it locked up again (twice). Then I opened the case and rebooted. Everything was fine. Did a backup and everything was fine. As soon as I shut the case it locked up. (Did this 2 times to make sure). I opened the case again and rebooted. It started nortmally (Grey screen). then jumped into the blue screen that normally shows just before finder appears. The blue blinked a bit & I saw the circular moving bars, then the blue flashed, etc. Any ideas or any more information needed?
Thanks,
Jyri

I am not too sure about this but...
Check the ribbon cable to the HDD. Since your machine has the problem when the door is closed, you might have a fractured wire in the cable. Simple enough to check (with a different cable, natch).
Reasoning:
The ribbon cable runs from the mainboard to the HDD across the hinge for the door.
1/φ = φ-1

Re: Quicksilver 2002 dead...
Forgot to mention that part. Unfortunately, I already tried using a different HD ribbon cable and had the same problem. While I can't be 100% sure that the cable I used was good, it WAS good the last time I used the Mac it's in, so I'm guessing/hoping it was. Still, I think I'll see if I can scrounge up another connector cable & see what happens.

Have you run Apple Hardware Test yet?
May sound like a dumb question, but I had to ask. AHT discovered a bad RAM module in my MDD G4 that no other diagnostic discovered. It gave me a fit for over a week before I thought of running it.

That would require me having AHT for the QS. I bought it used and didn't get AHT as part of the deal.
