Frankly, you rock!

The weird thing about some of these features is that Apple hid them really really well. I think I might have stumbled across the CalDAV syncing in a few weeks but luckily several people posted it on their sights. You have to go into the following to find it:

Settings: Mail, Contacts, Calendars: Add Account...: Other: Add CalDAV Account:

and then you can enter your information. Of course, you also have to know what a CalDAV account is and why you would want to use it. Personally, this is a great feature for me. It enabled me a create a calendar using Google Calendar that I can then subscribe to on my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, my MacBook Pro, and my wife's MacBook. Now we can share events that we're doing together including the ability to make changes to them and it all syncs wirelessly. That is a great feature.

I just want to be able to sync my iCal into another Calendar program offered on the Touch that actually has the features I want (Organize/SmartTime+). I would like to be able to do this straight from iCal to SmartTime. Why this is so difficult I have no idea! However, this and other 3rd part calendar programs all require you to first sync to a gmail calendar (or something similar) and then from gmail sync to iCal. This has never worked for me and never has. Any ideas?

Also, since updating there are a couple of apps that keep appearing in the App. Store icon on my Touch even after updating them multiple times. One such app appears and the Install icon is grayed out and after I close the App. Store the icon shows that all apps are up to date. Bug?

Are you saying that you aren't able to sync between iCal and Google calendars? If so I can help you with that because I just set it up on my computer the other day.

Yes - I need to sync to google Gmail Calendars, after which, I should be able to export that info to the above mentioned app. Since I have never been able to successfully do so, I have what appears to be a well thought out and not to mention, paid for app that I've never used.

So, here is what I've tried. I've used iCal Archiver and always get this error message (everything is set up as it should be):

I've also tried the obvious of exporting what is an ics file from iCal http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/wellfleation/icsfile.jpg (?) but when I import it nothing changes in Google Calendar. So some help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do you already have a calendar set up in iCal that you want to get the information into Google Calendar or can you just create a Google Calendar, sync that with iCal and then go forward from there?

If so you can use this: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/ … 99358#ical

If you need to take an existing iCal calendar and import it and then set up syncing for the future then you need an extra couple of steps. I rant into the same strange problem you saw where I exported it from iCal and imported it into Google Calendar and none of the events were there. Try this instead:

1) Export via iCal
2) Import into Sunbird
3) Export from Sunbird as ics file again
4) Import into Google Calendar.
5) Then I would advise to follow the steps in the link above. That will allow you to continue to make changes in iCal that will sync with Google Calendar and then to your other application I would guess unless that is a one time export and not a constant sync.

Let me know if you have any other questions or you need clarification for any of the above.

You would think it would be a little easier. How about Apple enabling this in iCal. So the user could just input settings from there in a real streamlined way (check off a few prefs).

I'll attempt the above eventually. I don't even have Sunbird, haven't used it for many years.

Re: OS 3.0

Apple already is gearing up for a new OS update

It didn't take Apple long after the release of its iPhone OS v3.0 to begin preparing for the first major update to the new OS.  Apple has announced the availability of a beta of its OS v3.1 along with a 3.1 version SDK, for its developers.

IPhone OS v3.1 will improve video editing, one of the hot new features on the iPhone 3G S.  The 3G S allows users to edit videos by selecting or deselecting series of frames, however, the edits automatically overwrote the original.  Now the system prompts the user with the option to save a copy, when saving your editing work.

Arranging icons on the home screen also has had a cool vibration effect added.  Another little OS level tweak is the boot time -- the phone now boots considerably faster.

Another nice addition is the inclusion of paste into the dialing screen.  Users can now paste phone numbers into the dial box.  Alphanumeric numbers, such as 1-800-MY-APPLE, will be properly converted to phone numbers.

MMS functionality is supported in the beta, though it is still not supported on the network by AT&T. [..]
