Re: Just Bing it
Are the Microsoft fanbois flocking to the Bing standard?
Or is there more to it. I wasn't impressed when I tried it.

Probably
Yes and I'll tell you what it likely is. There's something supposedly new out. Most people want to see if that something new serves them better. Once the initial test surge subsides you'll find the true market equalibrium.

Yes, it's pretty gay if you have to advertise your search engine. Can't say I've ever seen a Google ad on tv.
I've seen ads for Yahoo! I remember ads for Excite. I remember ads for HotBot. But never once have we ever seen an ad for Google. Google just is. And people know it is. And therefore they don't need to spend millions of dollars to advertise.
And that is the reason I think Bing will fail just like everyone else has. In fact, isn't this like the 4th search engine MS has tried to put out to kill Google in the last 10 years?

You probably never will. Google is probably the only 100 billion dollar company that doesn't advertise. As far as I am concerned they also own You Tube. Have you ever seen a you tube ad. You never will.
I guess because the people at the top of google's headquarters are in their 30s (2 of their 3 ceos) they have the ability to think like young people that browse and are more creative or know how to choose projects more creatively than most other ceos. The third ceo at google is more like a supervisor.

Yes. YouTube has ads. Certain videos have certain ads. Ads are all over YouTube. In fact, they just added a feature where videos with language will pause for a few seconds before starting to warn you.

Do you see youtube ads on tv? I thought not.
Where do you think Google gets most its revenues? From ads. The search engine is free. But to advertise your website; or product through google cost ya some $$$$.
Have you seen ads on gmail. Yes. Google earth has a paid version. yatta yatta yatta yatta.

By that logic it should've enjoyed an almost immediate, much larger share gain more nearly commensurate with browser share, then lost some as people reverted to Google, Yahoo etc.
I wouldn't expect YT TV ads, with Google the literal owner. By the time YT launched, viral marketing and the Google connection were quite enough. Don't remember Facebook, Myspace etc. ads either. Ads cost money, and some services don't need them esp. for the target demographic. If the intial demog is largely college age, word of mouth/text msg- now tweets- are enough. Or.. Google ads.

Re: Just Bing it
Technically that is an iPhone ad that displays the YouTube app. So although that is the closest you will get to a YouTube ad it isn't a YouTube ad.

Re: Just Bing it
Why is it that in English you call stuff by the brands that popurlarized it instead of the given name that has been approved.

Because people use whatever works for them, instead of necessarily listening to marketing/legal departments.

And total common usage of a brand name can result in the brandname losing it's unique legal position.

BAND-AID! I knew I forgot one.
The thing is people just get used to associating things with their most popular brand. And it just becomes second nature to just say Google it for me. Even if your default search is MSN Search or Yahoo! or Excite or Hotbot or Mamma.com or AltaVista. It's all Googling. It's all TiVoing. Humans are creatures of habit. It's easy to get used to something. Hard to not do it out of habit.

They all still do surprisingly. Even Excite who started their ad campaign around the same time Windows 95 was "Starting me up".
