No. For the most part, Islamic rituals remain rooted in the 10th century. What many people fail to understand is that some of the parts of Islamic culture that the west finds objectionable isn't mandated by the religion, per se. It is mandated by the Arabic nomadic culture from the 10th century.
Being rooted in the past isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not recognizing the difference between authentic religious obligation, and archaic human custom, is.
For example, when Christ was roaming the land, slavery was fairly well accepted. Sure, there were some who opposed it, but they were typically considered nut jobs and ignored. Thus, the Bible describes how slaves should be treated by their masters. Obviously, attitudes towards slavery have changed in some of the world, and that no longer really applies to most of Western civilization.
On the other hand, practices like baptism and the Lord's supper are still observed pretty much the same way they were a couple thousand years ago. Baptism actually predates Christ. This ancient practices are still applicable today, and will remain applicable in the future.
One of the problem with Islam is that no one has managed to separate the cultural BS from the actual religion.

I don't think the Koran has the equivalent of "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s"
Some subjects actually enjoy pain, and withhold information they might otherwise have divulged in order to be punished.

Seriously, BHO is the Muslim, not Gov Palin.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

Actually she acts like a mullah, or ayatollah in her assumption that her word is that of God.

Re: Vanity Fair profiles Palin
I just assumed Sarah Palin was the Republicans' way of reinforcing the candidacy of John McCain as a graceful way of conceding the 2008 election to the Democrats. I mean let's face it, after the whole Iraq thing, plus Katrina, plus the economic meltdown and probably other stuff I forget there was never any real chance the Republicans would win. So they fielded McCain, a candidate they had already declared non-viable at the last convention, and saddled him with Sarah Palin because, let's face it, a lot of their constituents just aren't bright enough to get the point if it was just McCain and an even slightly electable running mate. No sense wasting a potential winner in a race they knew they couldn't win. Plus, they get the bonus of being able to say "No more chicks. We tried that and it didn't work". Gotta salvage what they can.
Patience is a virtue of the weak for it makes them stand still long enough for the strong to crush them with ease.

I really don't understand the GOP fascination with her -at least as a national leader.
The only thing she offers them is that weird allure of her near-fictional life story, part of that dunder-headed conservative wet-dream of "rugged independence" and simple-minded virtue and "common sense".
They seem so compelled by this that they ignore everything else.
All they care about is her possible ability as a campaigner --not her multitude of liabilities as a leader.
I honestly never thought a major American Party could be so naive --especially after the George W. Bush fiasco.
