The "proper place" for a child to grow up is one where they are loved and cared for.

Having a physical connection to the caregiver is not needed - but, res, you have that experience, don't you?

I provided an anecdote regarding gay couples raising children. You referred to a report that you have yet to reproduce. Not the same thing.

However, what is a valid point is that homosexuals have a much higher statistical occurrence of mental illness / instability, therefore, the argument can be made that placing a child in a home with two parents who are more likely to have instability issues is much riskier than placing a child in a home with two parents who are less likely to have instability issues.

Well,....I think there was a reason why the Canaanites were eliminated when the Israelites took the land.  Reading about the pagan practices of some of those nations is an eye-opener.  Even in Greek Sparta and some other places, men on boys behavior was considered normal.  Some of the others cut people into pieces, impaled their captives, did ritual burning of children to pagan images, etc.  If those people were so messed up, and kids grew up in such behaviors, it would be difficult to keep many of them from corrupting the Israelites' values.  When they sinned, they lost favor with God.  There is evidence that a great Eastern Mediterranean-area drought & famine may have helped cause the "sea peoples" to invade the E & SE Mediterranean shores, including Egypt & Canaan.  That set the stage for the Phillistines vs. Israel conflicts.  Israel would be blessed, then be lured into detestable practices by the pagans, fall out of favor with God, and get subjugated, 'til God raised up another deliverer to lead them back to Himself.  I dread the same cyclic troubles for America.  We've known freedom for so long, but that could change.
