Thank God.

A billion seconds is 31 years.
A trillion seconds is 31,688 years.
Hope and change could be forever.

Ah, the AMC Pacer, one of the ugliest cars ever to drive American roads.
I always wanted to seal one shut, fill it with water and fish and drive around in a scuba suit.

Like I mentioned other thread, try dropping a Boss 429 in one, or maybe a 426 Hemi. More Pacers left than Hornet AMXs.

Weren't those available with an optional 409ci V8?

I don't think AMC made a 409.

Ah, yeah. Should have said 401 and no, the pacer was not offered with that.

A Gremlin X, however, could have been ordered with a 304 V8.
As for the Pacer's styling, I feel that was the least of the car's troubles. In fact, I think it's kind of neat looking, in a retro-future way. I recall one magazine cover (Car & Driver, I think) celebrating the Pacer's introduction with a full-on view of the car's schnoz and a headline reading, "Suddenly it's 1980!"
Just think of the Pacer as an extremely tall, slow Porsche 928.

Way before its time even if AMC- for some reason Bren wants a '77 or later Hornet-based AMX, not AMC's late-'60s pony/musclecar.
The 348/409 was the first big-block Chevy V8, basically a truck engine, available thru '63. In '64 Chevy engineers reworked the head design and lo, in the second half of the '65 model year was born the 396, followed in '66 by the 427- tho due to GM regs, the limit for mid-size and smaller cars was 400ci, save the Corvette.

There's no "or later," 'cause the Hornet AMX existed for just one year. 1978 saw the Hornet restyled and renamed "Concord," which did lead to a Concord AMX, which also lasted for just one model year.
Then came the Spirit AMX, which was gone by 1981, I think.

So do the right thing and restore it! If money's a problem, just tell your landlord you're withholding rent because he's got a broken down old station wagon in your yard.

Heh,
Back when I had blue hair, I was walking down the street one day, wearing my Shrine Borg Coat, and I happened to see an elderly gentleman in a dark trench coat walking towards me. It was like looking in a mirror.

My daddy had one of them '76 Chevettes with no back seat. It'd originally been used by the USPS to deliver mail. We found a back seat in a junk yard and installed it, along with some very embarrassing wheelcovers, an air dam, and other aerodynamic aids from the JC Whitney catalog.
And blacked out or shaved trim.
And red-on-white RS/SS style hood stripes.
Complete with sheepskin seat-covers and a CB radio, that car was some piece of work.

Hey, I was just a kid at the time. I may have provided the inspiration, but if somebody failed to exercise an adult's good taste and customizing restraint, that's all on my dad's shoulders.
