USB development

I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with USB development. I have looked all over the internet and cannot find anything on the subject. All I want to do is experiment with something as simple as turning on an LED when I click a button on my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Use counterclocks and a two way switching technique to power on and off the led located somewhere else!!
