Apple IIgs questions
Hello all,
I am a Music Informatics student and I have recently been getting much more into vintage computing. Emulators are great and all but I have a great desire to play on the real thing. I am very interested in sourcing an Apple IIGS in order to play with the Ensoniq chip inside.
The only problem is that I am in the UK and ultimately I may be forced to buy one from the US.
My main concern here is the differences in our power supplies, I understand that I will need a transformer of some description but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to whether the IIGS has any specific power requirements, that I don't destroy it when I first plug it in.
Furthermore, is it possible to replace the internal PSU so that it would be compatible with a 220-240v 50Hz power supply?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Alex

Re: Apple IIgs questions
Outside North America the Apple IIGS shipped with a different 220v clip-in powersupply, making this and the plastic keycaps the only physical difference (and also very modular, in the sense of converting a non-localized machine to a local one).
Looks like if you can't find a UK version you will need to find a IIgs 220v Power supply.

Re: Apple IIgs questions
That I did not know, most useful thank you.
In the instance that I cannot find one of these internal PSUs has anyone advice on the type of transformer I would need?
Cheers

Re: Apple IIgs questions
Just use a standard-issue voltage converter.

Double check with them to make sure the transformer will handle the load of your peripherals and stuff. Especially if you're trying to run, say, a US monitor and/or printer as well. That'll be in watts. Smaller transformers won't handle it; they're intended for thinks like electric razors, cell phone chargers, or laptops.
If you use the video output to a television instead of the DB-15, I think a US IIgs might be using NTSC and not PAL. Could also be problematic.
