Midway Games lays off all 60 at corporate office
Chicago cuts represent 20 percent of the videogame publisher's global workforce

Videogame publisher Midway Games is laying off all 60 employees at its Chicago corporate office as it nears the end of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
According to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Midway gave a 60-day notification to the employees on Monday under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The cuts represent about 20 percent of the company's global workforce and most of the layoffs will take place by the beginning of September, the filing said.
Midway has two offices in Chicago. One is the corporate headquarters and the other is a development studio that produces the flagship Mortal Kombat line of games. Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. acquired the studio as part of its $33 million purchase of most of Midway's assets, including another studio in Seattle. The Delaware bankruptcy judge approved the Warner Bros. deal earlier this month.
Warner Bros. gave job offers to the 100 people at the Chicago studio, said Midway spokesman Geoffrey Mogilner. But Midway employees in corporate functions are being cut. The layoffs include Chief Executive Matthew Booty, as well as other senior executives.

I was going to say, is anybody honestly still waiting for this?
It's been 2 years, and the PC version had pretty much died within a few months of release.

Judging from how poorly it did on the PC, and how long it's been, I highly doubt it will ever come out for Mac.

Think Apple should seriously just bundle Vista with all Macs along with Bootcamp, preinstalled/etc, just so Mac gaming can truly die. Quick someone pull up one of those old Mac gaming interviews where the industry folks were excited about the Intel switch...I want to laugh at it again in a "I @#$@$ TOLD YOU SO" way

I thought of mentioning it in post 1, but... IMG no longer lists MacSoft, Feral, Freeverse or even Aspyr as sponsors. A sign of the recession, one hopes, but they're down to

That's it. One or two more may be slipping my mind from better days, but I can't quite remember the names. I'm not even sure how many of those are still in business.
(Searching for old company names, I came across a post characterizing me as going off again, preaching the bootcamp end of the world. Was I so far off?)

Mark asked about it more than once; one time not that long ago. Anyway it was announced for Mac 12/07, so more like 1 1/2 years. Personally I think it's dead.

THQ Buys Midway San Diego [Aug 08, 2009, 11:53 am ET]
Midway Sells San Diego Studio To THQ, Sells German-French Divisions has more on the breakup of Midway Games, describing the disposition of a couple of the studios not acquired by Warner Bros. They point to an SEC filing indicating Midway has sold its San Diego studio to THQ, and its French and German divisions to smaller entities. Word is THQ will offer employment to at least 40 of the 100 employees at the San Diego studio, though they also point out: "However, specifically excluded from the bankruptcy purchase by THQ is the contract with the TNA iMPACT! video game in development at the studio, as well as the third-party tools such as Unreal Engine being licensed for the game's creation."
