Over an ad? sad

Ah well. I'm not seen at those other places.

Farewell, it's been good.

Re: mis-bahaving ad

I just installed this add-on right here:

(link removed because everyone can find it on their own  You don't need to post a link here that will help them get around one of the magazines sources of income.)

Now the annoying ad is gone. It's so pleasant not to have to look at that damned thing!

Honestly, how much does the magazine make off of the ads here?  Is it beer money?  Or is it more than beer money?

It doesn't matter. They have ads because they want the money.

Which I completely understand. Personally, I have no problem with the ads normally. However, when an ad prevents me from using the page then it even makes me consider installing an ad blocker. If they would just fix it we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Re: mis-bahaving ad

Guys, i understand completely about those ads. They're annoying as hell, but we just can't leave a link like that. IMO, an email to a magazine rep (Roberto) will do more than just posting here. I mean, it's fine to post here, but follow up with an email.

Re: mis-bahaving ad

What's the point of having this forum if no one checks it and we have to resort to actually finding the address and then emailing a person. A person who may or may not have any say so in how the forums are ran.

This crap is ridiculous.

Re: mis-bahaving ad

I fully understand Justine's position. I posted the link because there are a lot of very similarly named ad-blockers, and I can only vouch for the one that I installed. But Justine has a valid point. Just because some of us may have some gripes about Mac|Life, that doesn't mean we're not on the same team.

Re: mis-bahaving ad

I had no idea what you guys where talking about before, so I assumed it was resolved quite fast. But alsas I was mistaken and had the same thing happen to me. It just opens if you mouse over w/o clicking it and it has no close button. (Using Safari 4 btw) http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/563236/WhackedAdvert.jpg

I think what is happening is that depending on where your mouse is when you roll over the ad it is rendering in different locations on the screen. In the case where it has no close button I think that it actually has one but that the part of the ad that contains the close button is not visible because the ad rendered to far to the right.

I use FF and what it provides. It doesn't help. At least not for me

Re: mis-bahaving ad

That's the whole reason I'd posted that link; there are a whole mess of FF add-ons that block ads and they all have nearly identical names, yet they don't all work the same. It'd be easier if the people making these things would show a little originality and call their add-ons something other than "ad-blocker" or "ad-block."

You still can't advertise ad blockers on these forums for the purpose of blocking the forums ads.
