USB headphone issues
Just got some new Logitech USB headphones. I wanted to replace the Buffalo ones I had been using, because I blamed them for the volume of my voice dropping when I recorded a podcast with someone via Skype. I always had to keep the Sound control panel open and keep dragging the input volume back up while recording. (I also disliked the inline controller -- it was too high up the cord and got in my way. And I dislike inline controllers anyway -- for one thing, it's just one more thing to break.)
Last night I tested out the headphones, recording into Garage Band, and found that I could set the input volume at about halfway and get a good recording.
This morning I recorded an interview over Skype, using WireTap Studio. I had the sound control panel open, and whenever I talked, the input volume would go down. However, oddly, when I listen back to the recording, I don't notice the volume of my voice changing at all -- it's consistently loud.
That's the good news. The bad news is, a buzzing during much of the interview, though it drops out sometimes. Not a problem that I had before, so I'm inclined to blame the headphones.
Recording some short podcast segments by myself tonight, I'm getting the buzzing again, although once I recorded for 90 seconds with no buzzing.
Could this be something that a MIDI setting change might fix? If so, what? If not, is the solution simply to return the headphones?
Also, any idea on the issue of the volume control on my voice when recording while talking on Skype?
