CNET and the MacFixIt Purchase and Closure

CNET purchased MacFixIt, and on August 4, they placed the MacFixIt forums into Archive and shifted all activity to the CNET forums. This, naturally caused all sorts of uproar amongst the MacFixIt moderators and steady contributors, and general community that has built there over the years.

Chief amongst the complaints against CNET was that the forum isn't in any of the more common BB software, like PunBB. The lack of editablity of posts by the poster, the lack of visual notification of new content and controls to take one immediately to the unread posts with a single click, and general clunky organization of the forums and topics also fueled objections.

The intial responses to the CNET forum administrators call for comments on their new Mac forums was met with a general silence by CNET, which only dumped fuel upon a flickering flame, until it became a conflageration of outrage and discontent. As a result several of the former moderators came together in an effort to maintain the community and provide the same level of service as was provided by MacFitxIt forums and created FineTunedMac.

Currently the subscription service to the archives of MacFixIt has been suspended, and no new subscriptions are available.  I don't have a hard date for final suspension of the content site or verification that new subsciptions have been frozen.

:::Correction:::
The content to the MacFixIt content site is still functioning as it has before. The MacFixIt forums are the only part that has been archived.

As of this post FineTunedMac is operational and open to all. It seems to be thriving.

I guess that is the best solution; but I don't like the forum's layout or design.

PunBB sucks. You can't even change your avatar.

There, I said it. Bite me.

Also, CNET sucks and hates Macs.

didn't say PunBB was good, just that its format and function resembled other mainline BB software.
