alternateen: This term is meant to designate those teenybopper kids who listen to alternative music and try to be different by looking identical to other trend-following teenagers who are trying to be different. Usually used in reference to the kids who listen to Pearl Jam or U2, for example, and other such Top 40 bands that are classified as alternative for some reason. (The gothic version of these types are called baby bats.)

Hey, Pearl Jam is a good band.

Pearl Jam and U2 are OK, but they're no Aaron Carter.

spooky kid: This is a very recent term which doesn't have much widespread usage quite yet. The spooky kids are followers of Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails and are mostly under 18 years old. (Originally the name of the band was Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids.) People confuse spooky kids for Goths, which is frustrating to Goths because Goth culture gets blamed for the stupid things spooky kids do. Spooky kids and Goths don't associate with each other very much, and they tend to not like each other. Goths resent them for being poseurs and giving Goth a bad name, and they resent Goths for being snobs and elitists. Spooky kid is usually used as a derogatory term similar to baby bat, but it specifically refers to the younger and ardent Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails fans. I'm not sure if spooky kids call themselves spooky kids, I think most of them call themselves Goth.

I wonder if he has a definition for goth snobs who make all kinds of classifications with which to insult others and claim they really aren't goth. Or does elitist suffice?

I've misspent enough of my youth (OK, enough of my mid-life crisis if you wanna be a dick about it) immersed in the goth scene that I can speak with some authority on this subject.

1) Goth is all about the pose, so it makes no sense to think in terms of poseurs vs. "real" goths.

2) Goths do like NIN and Manson, along with many other equally awful artists and bands. Personally, I don't understand this.

3) Extremely young members of the scene are not denigrated as "baby bats" or whatever, and they are not shunned. Think about it: What self-absorbed, psychologically scarred, drug-addled twenty or thirty-something scenester wouldn't want to be surrounded by barely legal goth girls?

Well it turns out this was all just a big misunderstanding:

Speaking from the Clackamas County Jail on Friday, Steven George Bronson said authorities filed two third-degree sexual abuse charges against him because the women didn't realize he accidentally bumped his face into their legs while bending low.

"I think they were upset when they felt sweat on the side of my face because it was so hot," said Bronson, 46. "It was an accident."

Glad we got that cleared up!
