Quake Live "Very Close" To Release
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse
In a recent forum posting id Software's Marty Stratton offered a status update on the Mac and Linux versions of Quake Live. The game is "very close but not quite ready for full release on the main site," and Stratton asked posters to offer their system info if they are interested in participating in beta testing.
Seen lots of questions about Mac & Linux versions and their status and why they weren't mentioned in the release on Tuesday. Both Mac & Linux are being tested with the closed beta group right now, so they are very close but not quite ready for full release on the main site. If you use a Mac/Linux system and would like to potentially test, please reply to this post with your system info (hardware, OS & version, Processor, Memory, Browser & version). We likely won't select everyone to help finish up the testing, but will select people with systems that fill holes in our test group.
Visit the page below to read more.
My bold. Hit it, uki.

Re: Quake Live for Mac/Linux Tues, 8/18
Long ago, the beta was PC-only. I'd guess they currently have enough Mac testers with systems like yours for their needs. Sounds like it's nearly ready anyway.

1Up reports that QUAKE LIVE will add support for Macintosh and Linux users in an update next Tuesday, August 18. This was revealed by id President Todd Hollenshead as part of id's press conference yesterday. Thanks Joystiq.
Time for a title edit.

Did you pay them money? No? Well that's why it's still coming.

You expected it to be up and running at 8 AM?

Re: Quake Live for Mac/Linux Tues, 8/18
Though Id hasnt actually said it, it seems like QuakeLive is a nogo for PPC-macs. Lots and lots of posts on the forums, most of them angry, plus hours after hours of "installing" the plug-in seems to confirm this. I'd say the messed up when they couldnt post those extra few lines of text telling users that its Intel-only

I totally suck at twitch games.
The more realistic the game is, the better I perform.

ArmA II for you, then, as I suspected. Total system hog (bullets have computed trajectories instead of being plumbline-straight, etc), low framerates... a mil sim, with an expansion just announced. L33t everything but scalable, and I 'spect you're down with 25-30 f/s in a sim.

Certes, mon Capitaine!
I play Red Orchestra and Darkest Hour, which is a step down from ArmA II. You do get respawns.
But then I love being able to drive a tank.

Re: Quake Live for Mac/Linux Tues, 8/18
I've tried QuakeLive on both an Intel Mini 1.5 Core Solo and a MBP 1.8 Core Duo (both running Tiger). Neither can get the "system configuration" watchdog when you try to register or log in when running Firefox 3.5, even though they boast Firefox comatibility (which both me and my wife prefer to the new Safari). On Safari 4, however, the weird stuff begins. The Mini, with half of the memory and processor power than the MBP, can install the plugin with no problem. The MBP, however, still gets caught by the watchdog saying that it is incompatible. Meanwhile, the Mini only gets so far as to the login process, where Safari gladly flahses itself out of existence. The Mini, however, is due for a memory upgrade (from 512MB to 2GB) once I crack up enough bravery to open that case. Anybody else having similar issues?
UPDATE: I added the new ram. Still no luck. I can only assume that it's an incompatibility with Tiger.

Re: Quake Live for Mac/Linux Tues, 8/18
Well I guess thats it. Tried to log in again yesterday to see if that damn plug-in would want to install this time when I was met with a message that told me I was running an incompatable system. Aparantly theyve changed the reqs not to Intel Mac only
Guess I have to stick to Wow and Nexuiz then
