360 Elite now shipping without HDMI cable
Cheep, guys.
Kotaku reports that employees at Gamestop have noticed that the Xbox 360 Elite no longer ships with HDMI or even component video cables. Instead it only comes with composite cables. With the Elite's price rumored to be dropping to $300 any day now (from $400), Microsoft apparently didn't feel like coughing up HD cables for free anymore. Officially Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite HDMI cable retails for $50.
Fortunately Microsoft doesn't use a proprietary HDMI cable on the 360, so any HDMI cable will work just fine with the Elite.
MS sells good cables, but here's a place to save some bucks.

Re: 360 Elite now shipping without HDMI cable
I don't understand why they didn't just include the HDMI and drop the composite cables... Well I do understand, it just irks me. I would be interested to know how many people who have an elite use the HDMI cable vs how many elite owners use the composite cables. I am going to ignore the component cables for now.

Re: 360 Elite now shipping without HDMI cable
Big margin on that $50 cable, like all console peripherals. Now you buy it, HDMI or even component. Some folks still don't have HDTVs and don't know about the VGA option (have to buy that, too, for that matter). $40-$50 for cables if composite doesn't do ya.
And rumors are surfacing about the coming SKU[s] being more/other than just a price drop on the Elite. The Arcade got a price boost in the UK as well. We'll know soon.
