Loading Classic on a PowerBook already running OS X
Hi everyone: I am brand new to Macs and this forum - looks like there is lots of useful information here and I'm anxious to learn. In the meantime, I have a question about loading Classic:
I purchased a PB G4 that has OS X Jag installed. But it does NOT have Classic installed. I need to know the proper way to install Classic, so that when I am in X and need Classic for apps, it will start.
I am certain Classic is not installed. I initially received the error "Classic Startup found no system folder on the boot volume from which to start Classic." I searched System Preferences under Startup Disk, and there is only "Mac OS X" and "Network". I have OS 9 on CD ...... and tried to install it from within X by double clicking on Mac OS Installer and got the following error:
"There are no localized Classic-specific resources to update the selected system folder "/PowerBook G4/Install CD/System Folder". Please select another system folder from within Classic preferences.
I'm afraid to try to install it upon bootup, for fear it will "override" Mac OS X and wipe it out. I am so used to Windows (sorry!), and am so clueless with the Mac it is comical! (BTW ... I'm enjoying it tremendously!)
I would really appreciate it if anyone would be able to tell me if I'd be safe to load 9 from startup, by pressing the C key when it turns on. Thank you.

All you have to do is boot from your CD (as you noted) and go right ahead and install it on your HD. It won't overwrite any of OS X's files or anything. In fact, OS 9 and OS X have been designed to work together at this point. You'll notice some nifty naming of your Applications folder, as well as other organizational niceties. Good luck!

Thanks, Dad.

Thanks for the welcome!
Well - I finally found the time to try installing it and it worked beautifully. Hardly took any time at all, too. I'm more and more amazed at the beauty of my PowerBook.
Thanks!
