World Rally Championship developing live, integrated racing game
The World Rally Championship is working on breakthrough gaming technology which would allow rally fans to compete for their own world title on real-time events from the comfort of their own homes.
...
Duncanson adds: “When I explained this plan to [FIA president] Max Mosley, he was very taken with the idea. And he has offered me the opportunity, when we get this up and running, to award a trophy to the winner of the on-line World Rally Championship at the same time that we are handing out the actual silverware to the world champions at the FIA’s awards evening in Monte Carlo."
...
"We’ve been talking to some of the major computer game companies and the technology is there to enable us to do it now. It’s just a question of getting what are fairly hefty development costs underwritten by one of these guys and then we’re away.”
The World Rally Championship Is Ready For You
They mention that their existing mapping technology (from VirtualSpectator™) will allow for the accurate reproductions of the real stages necessary for this to work.
This sounds like an awesome idea to me, and as someone with a top-500 stage time on DiRT, I will be first in line to try it when it becomes available... if it comes to the US, anyway

You and your racing games...
do you have a 360 steering wheel?
I still have a Sidewinder wheel from when those were phased out in '03, but never got to use it. Hope I can before soundcards and gameports become totally incompatible... maybe it goes on the Legacy Box™.
(Grand Prix Legends on a Voodoo 5... still gonna happen, I hope. GLide game.)

I don't!
But now that you mention it...
Also, I just saw that the DiRT 2 demo is up on XBL... I don't have Gold, so it'll be a couple days until I get to try it.
