S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Plans

[Aug 19, 2009, 09:26 am ET]

bitComposer Games announces they have worldwide rights to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, GSC Game World's first-person shooter sequel they will publish this fall. The announcement is accompanied by new S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat screenshots, and a reminder of what to expect from the game: "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat takes PC gamers once again into the deadly area surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion of 1986. Cordoned off by the military, this highly contaminated “Zone” is scoured by treasure hunters known as s.t.a.l.k.e.r.s, who search the irradiated lands for unique artifacts. In the role of Agent Alexander Degtyarev, the player must go undercover as a s.t.a.l.k.e.r., investigating the mysterious disappearance of five military helicopters while standing against various s.t.a.l.k.e.r. groups."

Fighting a zombie with a knife does work surprisingly well.

Any tips for a Stalker n00b? I recently got CS as part of a bundle, and you're acquainted with the mods & what-not-all.

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Plans

Well, the first thing is that Shadow of Chernobyl (the original game) is better than Clear Sky. More people have also worked on the mods for it and they work better...although, I haven't played CS for a few months now and they might have worked out some of the bugs. However, Shadow still has all of the Total Conversions made for it.

I like this site for my STALKER mods.

One that I like to use for CS is the No Garbage Mugging Fix. It pisses me off to lose everything I have part way into the game. However, the game does offer a side mission for you to find the creeps and get your stuff back, but you don't get your money back. I bought a bunch of stuff at the Freedom base once to reduce my money supply as much as I could, knowing I would get mugged.

Another mod that I use a lot are the carry or weight mods. The limits in STALKER are realistic and challenging and it can be interesting to play that way, but I find myself getting frustrated with constantly having to make decisions on what to carry out of all the good stuff I find.

The jump mod will let you go places that you normally can't get to easily, but you do have to consider that you have fall damage in the game.

Fair trade is also nice, because CS has the traders set really low on their pay outs.

There are also tutorials on how to extract and modify the game files yourself, which is how I implement the jump and carry mods. I also like to change the cost of items and have even changed ballistics on the weapons and grenades.

Running up to a zombie with a knife works because they can be slow to see you and raise their weapon. It saves ammo, too.

You can get a sniper rifle early in the game. It's lying on the ground next to the derailed train cars, but it's in pretty bad shape. I've used payout and supply mods to make it easier to raise the money I need to get it fixed in the CS camp because it's nice to have when you face that machine gun at the army base going into the next level (but I have also run along the fence line to the left, hiding behind the rocks and trees until the gun takes a break to sprint again).

A carry mod will also increase your stamina so you won't get winded so fast.

Re: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Plans

Looking at titles at GoGamer, the sad thought hits me that Nancy Drew Dossier: Resorting to Danger will probably outsell all the STALKER games combined by 10:1. Heck, it might even challenge Peggle...

Now we'll see if Bren is listening, and up to the challenge of becoming the Drewmeister.

::listens to Danger Man theme::
