Is Neverwinter Nights 2 playable on a iMac 20"?

Before I buy NWN2 for my iMac, I have one question. Is it even playable on my 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, NV9400M machine? I should have 4 GB installed soon, but I doubt RAM is the issue.

Yes. By a safe margin, no less.

Admittedly, a 9400M isn't an uber-gpu, but it's better than the 7600 that's the minimum. You might have to drop detail to play at the native res of your 20" screen though. (Playing at a non-native res would drive me crazy. your tolerance may vary.)

Honestly, though, the SP campaign wasn't as fun as NWN 1. It lost me about halfway through. I might try it again someday.

hmm-- with nwn1, the lasting appeal came from the fan generated content. Aielund, A Dance with Rogues, and so on.

I'm loving NWN2, although I'm playing the Win version in Boot Camp.  Quite Playable on my 18 month old imac with ATI2400XT (128 MB).

True, but the first order of business when you open the box shouldn't be "gee, I better download some fan-created content before I start playing."

'Sides, the boxed campaign (and the expansions) were a lot tighter, technically. Some of those campaigns were pretty shoddy. And I've basically come to the conclusion that nobody with the skills to make a decent campaign has any business doing their own voiceover work.

The good stuff is still worth paying money for.

I was kind of disappointed with NWN2, Win version in Boot Camp here, too. It was fun but it's just not the kind of game I could play through repeatedly with different types of characters. There are tons of possibilities for character building, of course, but I found that many parts of the main quest became really tedious after the second playthrough. The expansions were better than the original campaign, in my opinion, but still not something I could enjoy playing many times over. I'm sure that, over time, there will be more good user-created content but the community doesn't seem as active as the NWN1 community. The expansions aren't out for Mac but it seems that, like with NWN1, you can install the PC expansion with the Mac version of the game.

It's hit or miss. The last nwn module I played was "Darkness over Daggerford" which was sort of "Baldur's Gate" for "Neverwinter Nights". Most reviewers believed that if there was fault to be found, it was in the lack of romance option. The writers claimed that when Bioware commissioned the module from Ossian, the contract precluded romance. But fans aren't bound by contracts, or corporate definitions of good taste. I enjoyed the sex in "Dance with Rogues". If that makes me a filthy pervert, so be it.

I also like RPGs with blood spatter, beer, and prostitutes. Maybe I'm in the target audience for Dragon Age.

You'd probably like the Gothic series.
