UPS suggestions
I'm looking into getting a UPS for the Mac Server I have.
All it does is File Share. The setup is a G5 Dual 1.8 w/10.5 Leopard Server. The sharepoint files are sitting on a Drobo attached by Firewire 800.
What is a good UPS (not break the bank) that will shutdown the Mac Server properly when there is a power outage. I don't really need long runtime, just enough time for the UPS software to do it's thing and shutdown the server and drobo properly.
Thanks

Re: UPS suggestions
APC will do the trick. Just find the wattage you need to support. Get bigger not just big enough.
And if it's for a home setup look here.

Re: UPS suggestions
It's for my work place. We are the only Macs in a very large PC environment. So there will only be 5 Macs connecting to the G5 Leopard Server just to work off of shared files that will be sitting on the Drobo. Whats the best way to find out how much Power the G5 and the Drobo pulls?

You can look at the power specs for both machines and figure the wattage requirements from that. I think you would do ok with 800VA.

Re: UPS suggestions
I have another question for UPS users. In Mac OS X Leopard Server does the Server need to be logged in for the computer to shutdown properly in the event of a power failure or is that service root level? I would prefer to have the server always logged out. I do have two users though (Admininstrator and standard user).
Thanks

I haven't the foggiest on that one. Have you considered posting that question on the Apple site? They might actually know the answer. I'd like to know it too, when you find out.
